Swinford Community Indoor Market

This month’s Indoor Market will take place on Saturday 4th April from 9:30am to the later time of 2pm in the Cultural Centre.

There will be live music, great food and lots of local handmade crafts for sale. As usual the Railway Cafe will be open serving a delicious range of cakes and homemade treats to have with your tea or coffee.

Please come along and support your local community market which takes place on the first Saturday of every month.

Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Draw

Killasser Community Centre is 35 years old this year and in order to support the future maintenance and redevelopment of the centre and its associated grounds, the committee has decided to commence a 50/50 development draw.

It will be a monthly draw costing €5 to enter and the first draw will be held in Frank’s Place on Sunday 5th April.

Swinford Tidy Towns Good Friday Spring Clean

Swinford Tidy Towns Annual National Spring Clean will take place at 11am on Good Friday 3rd April.

If you have an hour or two to spare, please come along. We will be meeting up at the No Name Club on Chapel Street, Swinford at 11am on Good Friday morning. Tabards, gloves, litter pickers, rubbish and recycling bags will be provided by Swinford Tidy Towns on the day.

We had a very successful clean up in the Spring Clean last year, with the help of 24th Mayo Swinford Scout Troop along with Scoil Muire & Treasa Green Schools.

Swinford Golf Club will be having a fundraising 25 drive on Thursday 9th April at 9pm in aid of kidney dialysis. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Michael Davitt CCE Cake Sale

The annual Easter Sunday Michael Davitt CCE cake sale will be held as usual in the Home Economics room of Scoil Muire agus Padraig.

There will be a variety of lovely cakes, bread, pies, buns and other home made produce on sale. There will also be a raffle with plenty of good prizes to be won.

School open from 9:30am to take in produce and sale begins after last Mass.

The cake sale is a fundraiser for the Mayo Fleadh which will be held in Swinford on May 7th to 10th. Please show your support by either baking or buying.

Scout Leaders Required

Swinford Mayo 24 Scouts is currently looking to recruit new leaders for September 2015. If you are able to give an hour per week and you are interested in learning new skills along with sharing your own skills and life experiences, then Swinford Scouts are looking to hear from you.

Good Friday Monster 25 Drive

A Monster 25 Card Drive in aid of Meelick Community Centre will be held in Mean Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford on Good Friday 3rd April at 9pm.

€1000 in prizes. Tickets €10 now on sale.

Fashion Show Fundraiser

A fashion show will be held in the Gateway Hotel at 8:30pm on Friday 10th April. All proceeds raised going towards the construction of a Youth Memorial Garden to honour the younger members of the community who have passed away.

Tickets €10 now on sale and there are only a limited number of seats available. Please contact Mary Woodlock, Connie Gillespie, Deirdre Fahey, Kevin Moran or the Gateway Hotel for further details or to purchase your tickets.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €934 and was won by Martina O’Hara of Carrowberry, Swinford.

The next Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw will take place in Moore’s at 9pm on Tuesday 7th April.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also play online through the Swinford GAA store.

The club would like to thank all our sellers of tickets, the players for going out every weekend selling tickets and everyone in the community who purchased envelopes. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Swinford Drama Group Production

The members of Swinford Drama Group will be staging two one-act plays in Swinford Cultural Centre on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April. Currently two different groups of local amateur actors and actresses are busy rehearsing under the guidance of director Pat Moore.

“What’s For Pudding” by David Tristram and “Double Take” by Clement Shevlin are both comedies and you are guaranteed a great night’s entertainment.

Doors open at 7.15pm and first play begins at 8.00pm.

Everybody is welcome to attend for what will be an enjoyable and funny production. Please do come along and support the shows during its run.

Swinford Men’s Shed will be meeting at 8pm on Thursday 16th April in the Community Centre. With the summer months approaching we are aiming to start some new projects. New members are always welcome.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Easter Sunday at 2pm in Brabazon Woodlands.

The Easter Egg Hunt is sponsored this year by Derek Kennedy Eurospar Swinford, Sean & Angela Gavaghan Mace Swinford, Cathal Kelly The Gateway Hotel & Joe Mellett and the event is held in association with Swinford Tidy Towns.

Women’s Mini Marathon

The Carers Association in Mayo are looking for people doing the Western People Women’s Mini Marathon this year to do it in aid of their association.

Their role is to support carers who work tirelessly behind closed doors caring for their loved ones by providing support groups, information and in home respite. Sponsor cards can be provided.
