Swinford is situated beside the N5 and on a tributary of the famous River Moy. Swinford is a lively market town located only 10 miles from Ireland West Airport Knock, and 20 minutes drive from Mayo’s Capital town, Castlebar. Its range of  local businesses, quality accommodation and activities make it ideal for holiday makers.

Swinford is easily accessible by car and public transport.  Situated in the heart of Mayo, Swinford is a convenient base for tourists who would like to explore many of Mayo’s tourist attractions including Knock Shrine and Folk Museum, Foxford Woolen Mills, Ceide Fields, Achill Island, Croagh Patrick, the Greenway Cycle, Westport and The Museum of Country Life at Turlough.

Swinford is located beside the River Moy which is internationally famous for its excellent salmon fishing. The East Mayo Anglers’ Association based in Swinford have over nine miles of prime fishing water. Anglers from England, France, Germany and all over the world stay in Swinford to enjoy the fishing by day and a few quiet pints with the locals by night.

Swinford Golf Course is located in Brabazon Park, 5 minutes walk from the town centre.  It is a beautiful 9 hole golf course with mature woodlands.  Swinford town is also surrounded by many world famous championship golf courses including Rosses Point Golf Course, Enniscrone Golf Course, Ballinrobe Golf Course and Westport Golf Course to name a few! It really is the perfect location for golfers.

Every year, over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Swinford town hosts its annual street festival, “Siamsa Sraide Swinford” (Fun on the Streets of Swinford), one of Ireland’s longest running street festivals. Activities during the week include pageantry, heritage displays, ceili dancing, Michael Comer walking history tour of Swinford and an international busking competition which is held on the Wednesday of the festival, the traditional Harvest Fair Day. Winners of the busking competition include world famous musician Tommy Flemming!
