VTOS Further Education Centre Open Day

VTOS Swinford is hosting an Open Day on Wednesday 17th June 2015 from 11am – 2pm. All unemployed adults are welcome to come along to find out more about the Computer and Business Course which is due to start in September 2015. Visitors will have an opportunity to discuss their options, meet staff and students and take a tour of the building.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please note that due to the ongoing construction work for the “Spirit of Place Project”, there will be no parking in the ground of the centre. However, the centre will remain open and there will be pedestrian access.

We Banjo 3 Live In Swinford

The Gateway Hotel is delighted to welcome the award-winning We Banjo 3 to Swinford. The Galway group will be performing live in the hotel to launch their new ‘Live In Galway’ album this Friday 12th June and because of their busy international touring schedule this is their only launch date in Ireland.

Lough Derg Pilgrimage

The Achonry Diocese is organising a three day pilgrimage to Lough Derg from Monday to Wednesday 20th – 22nd July.

Island admission €70 for adults, €65 for seniors, €59.50 for students.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trips

Swinford Gardening Club outings are always enjoyable and an ideal way to visit new and exciting places. On Sunday 19th July, they will be visiting Strokestown Park House Famine Museum and Garden and their three day tour of Wicklow and Kildare will be leaving Swinford on Monday 10th August.

The Osprey Hotel, Naas will be the base for the tour with visits to Belvedere House & Gardens, Newbridge Silver Museum, Newbridge Shopping Centre, Glendalough, Russborough House & Gardens, Blessington Lakes, Fern Hill Garden Centre and a guided tour of Curragh Military Barracks & Museum.

Cost of tour: €240 pp sharing, single supplement €60.
Non-members welcome.

Siamsa Seipeil 2015

Siamsa Sraide Festival

The 31st Siamsa Sraide will be held in Swinford from the 31st July to 5th August.

Highlights for this years festival will include Phil Coulter & Friends, Crossroads ceili with Glenside and Copperplate Ceili Bands, open air dancing to Patrick Feeney and Michael English, Heritage Day with music and street stalls, Old Harvest Fair Day & International Busking Competitions with a €2500 prize fund, Arts Concert including poetry, sean-nos singing & dancing, and traditional music with All-Ireland Fleadh Ceol winners.

Plan your holidays to coincide with this years Siamsa Sraide Festival and have the craic with locals and visitors free on the streets of Swinford.

Siamsa Sraide Fringe Events

Siamsa Sraide places a lot of emphasis on workshops for children. This years tutoring will include creative dance classes, West African drumming and music classes commencing on Monday 27th July. Classes will be held in Scoil Muire agus Treasa.

Siamsa Sraide organisers acknowledge financial assistance from Mayo County Council Arts, Foras na Gaeilge and CCE Swinford.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

Lightning strikes twice…. Congratulations to Tommy Dyna Feeney who won €711 in this week’s 50/50 Draw.

The next Swinford GAA 50/50 draw will take place in Moore’s on Tuesday 16th June.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Humbert Challenge Triathlon

As highlighted in our featured article here, Swinford Tri Sports are once again hosting the Humbert Challenge Triathlon will take place on Sunday 28th June.

The Humbert Challenge Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon which involves a 1500m swim in the beautiful Callow Lake, a 44k cycle and a 10k run. Last years event not only attracted a great level of local participation but also competitors from all over the country and beyond.

Swinford Tri Sports continues to provide regular training and new members are always welcomed.

Meelick National School 50th Anniversary

Meelick National School will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the school on Sunday 21st June.

Mass will take place at 10am followed by refreshments in the school hall.

They would appreciate any old school photographs which can be dropped into the school. These will be displayed on the day.

St. Michael’s National School Centenary Celebrations

St. Michael’s National School, Kinaffe, celebrates its centenary this year.

Swinford Scouts Waiting List

Anyone wishing to place their child on Swinford Scouts waiting list may do so by emailing: swinfordmayo24@gmail.com – please include the child’s name, date of birth and a contact number.

Age groups are as follows – Beavers 6/7/8 years, Cubs 9/10/11 years, Scouts 12-15 years, Ventures over 15 years.

Spaces will be offered on a first come basis. The availability of spaces in September will also be dependent on having sufficient leaders on board to facilitate weekly meetings and events.

Scout Leaders Required

Swinford Mayo 24 Scouts is currently looking to recruit new leaders for September 2015. If you are able to give an hour per week and you are interested in learning new skills along with sharing your own skills and life experiences, then Swinford Scouts are looking to hear from you.
