National Tidy Towns Competition

The National Tidy Towns competition began on Monday 1st June and runs until September & Swinford Tidy Towns Clean Street League also began on June 1st. The Swinford Tidy Towns Committee asks all households and businesses to help them out and keep outside your premises clean. Please pick up any litter including cigarette butts and clear any weeds. Help us to improve on all the great work that’s being carried out in recent years.

The Committee are also asking all parties to please remove all the posters that were erected around town for the recent referendums, including the cable ties which are litter. By law, these posters have to be removed no later than 7 days from polling day.

Table Quiz

Swinford GAA in conjunction with Swinford Scouts will be hosting a table quiz in The White House on Friday 5th June at 9pm.

€40 for a table of 4. Students €5.
A fun night guaranteed. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Swinford Community Indoor Market

The Swinford Indoor County Market is here again on Saturday 6th June and will be open from 9.30am to 2pm. The market is delighted to be celebrating its 1st Birthday and a busy day is planned for the whole family to enjoy.

‘In Stitches’ Wool & Craft Shop are running a workshop for all children (Boys & Girls) aged 6+. There will also be a ‘Guess The Weight Of Our Birthday Cake’ competition in aid of Nepal’s Earthquake.

As always our lovely stalls are there and we have a few new faces among them, fish, fruit, veg, cakes, breads, preserves, plants and crafts will all be available.

The Railway Café will also be open for you to sit down, relax with a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake while enjoying the music provided by local musicians.

The market committee are looking forward to seeing you all there to help celebrate a very successful first year.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s draw was worth €827 and was won by Abbie & Ellie O’Brien c/o Jacqueline Burke of Cullen, Foxford.

The next draw will take place in the Gateway Hotel on Tuesday 9th June.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated and who knows next week you could be the lucky one……..

Midfield Development Association Meeting

The next meeting of Midfield Development Association will be held at 9pm on Monday 8th June in Midfield National School.

The Development Committee look forward to seeing you there.

Swinford Sings Choral Festival

The 4th Annual Swinford Sings Choral Festival was very successful and raised much needed funds for the Church Restoration works.

Thanks to all who helped to make it happen, to the sponsors and especially to all those who attended on the night. A special thank you to Swinford Choir and to Fr James McDonagh and Antoinette Byrne plus the visiting choirs who as usual put on a fantastic performance.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trip

Swinford Gardening Club outings are always enjoyable and an ideal way to visit new and exciting places and their three day trip to Wicklow and Kildare will be leaving Swinford on Monday 10th August.

The Osprey Hotel, Naas will be the base for the tour with visits to Belvedere House & Gardens, Newbridge Silver Museum, Newbridge Shopping Centre, Glendalough, Russborough House & Gardens, Blessington Lakes, Fern Hill Garden Centre and a guided tour of Curragh Military Barracks & Museum.

Cost: €240 pp sharing, single supplement €60.
Non-members welcome.

Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Draw

Congratulations to Megan Rowley of Ballinacurra, Killasser who won €1155 in the Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Monthly Draw which was held in Frank’s Place on Sunday 31st May.

Megan purchased her lucky envelope in Moore’s.

Humbert Challenge Triathlon

As highlighted in our featured article here, Swinford Tri Sports are once again hosting the Humbert Challenge Triathlon will take place on Sunday 28th June.

The Humbert Challenge Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon which involves a 1500m swim in the beautiful Callow Lake, a 44k cycle and a 10k run. Last years event not only attracted a great level of local participation but also competitors from all over the country and beyond.

Swinford Tri Sports continues to provide regular training and new members are always welcomed.

Siamsa Seipeil 2015

As announced in our featured article here, Phil Coulter, one of Ireland’s finest artistes of all time will be playing in Swinford Church on Friday 31st July. Phil will be joined by special guests on the night which will be announced at a later date.

Meelick National School 50th Anniversary

Meelick National School will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the school on Sunday 21st June.

Mass will take place at 10am followed by refreshments in the school hall.

They would appreciate any old school photographs which can be dropped into the school. These will be displayed on the day.

St. Michael’s National School Centenary Celebrations

St. Michael’s National School, Kinaffe, celebrates its centenary this year.

Siamsa Sraide Festival

The 31st Siamsa Sraide will be held in Swinford from the 31st July to 5th August.

Highlights for this years festival will include Phil Coulter & Friends, Crossroads ceili with Glenside and Copperplate Ceili Bands, open air dancing to Patrick Feeney and Michael English, Heritage Day with music and street stalls, Old Harvest Fair Day & International Busking Competitions with a €2500 prize fund, Arts Concert including poetry, sean-nos singing & dancing, and traditional music with All-Ireland Fleadh Ceol winners.

Plan your holidays to coincide with this years Siamsa Sraide Festival and have the craic with locals and visitors free on the streets of Swinford.

Siamsa Sraide Fringe Events

Siamsa Sraide places a lot of emphasis on workshops for children. This years tutoring will include creative dance classes, West African drumming and music classes commencing on Monday 27th July. Classes will be held in Scoil Muire agus Treasa.

Siamsa Sraide organisers acknowledge financial assistance from Mayo County Council Arts, Foras na Gaeilge and CCE Swinford.
