Free Electrical Recycling

Please note that there is a FREE Electrical Recycling Event taking place in the Tesco Car Park, Swinford, on Saturday, 28th September, 2019, from 10am – 4pm.
Householders will have the perfect opportunity to recycle anything with a plug or a battery which is at the end of its useful life.
Also, all types of batteries and
Energy saving light bulbs may be recycled at this event.
Mayo County Council is supporting this recycling initiative by WEEE Ireland and is endeavouring to encourage as many people as possible to avail of this public collection.

Swinford Indoor Country Market

Swinford Indoor Country Market is celebrating its 4th birthday on Sat the 5th October from 9.30 -2pm in the Cultural Centre, Swinford.

The monthly market is proud to regularly boast a wide range of locally sourced produce. They have a fabulous range of breads, cakes, plants, vegetables, honey, eggs, photography, Aloe Vera,  and a huge range of crafts. A lot of the crafters are now taking orders for christmas, booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Call in to browse and catch up.  You can relax and have lunch or a coffee in the railway cafe after your shopping.

 

Befriending Programme.

Mayo North East are looking for volunteers to befriend 3 Syrian families in Swinford. The volunteers will assist the families in home management and social activities. Two people will visit the families for 1-2 hours a week at a time that suits the families. Volunteers will be required to take part in an interview, Garda vetting and 2 training sessions. Volunteers must be over 18.

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social activities club for over 55’s who meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We play a variety of games including Boccia, bucket ball and parachute games. We also play skittles, ball and bean bag games which are part of the Go for Life Games designed to provide gentle exercise. You decide what you enjoy and you can try a variety of games or stick to one, it’s up to you. From time we add new games and are open to suggestions and new ideas. All games are designed to be played sitting or standing.
We are always looking for new members and if you would like to help out in any way, we would be happy to meet you. Just come along to any of our games mornings or call us on 087 904 9723

The ‘Getting Started’ programme aims to make over 55’s comfortable using a computer / tablet / ipad / smartphone and the internet. Tutoring is usually on a 1:1 basis in a relaxed atmosphere. Classes are 2 hours once a week for 5 weeks.

When: Wednesdays from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

Swinford Camera Club

Meetings take place in the Gateway hotel at 8pm on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month. If you are looking to take up a new hobby, why not try photography? Come along to a meeting and see if you’d like it. As always, new members are always very welcome, especially beginners.

First Climate Fest to take place in Mayo this September

Climate Fest is a day of talks, workshops, performances and conversation aimed at helping you to make simple changes to your day-to-day life that will help tackle the climate emergency.
Mayo County Council, the Mercy Sisters, Castlebar Parish and GMIT Green Campus are co-hosting Climate Fest with support from LECo, Mayo PPN and Green-Schools. The event will take place in GMIT Castlebar on the 28th of September from 10.00am until 4pm. There is no charge for this event and a complimentary lunch will be provided in the college canteen.
