Race Night in aid of Feileacain

Mia Natasha Ginty was born sleeping on the July 9th 2018. Mia’s parents Natasha & Vinnie Ginty are hosting Mia’s Mouse Race Night in her memory in the Turf Shed, Killasser on Sat July 27th starting at 8.30pm. All proceeds going to the charity Feileacain who support grieving families on the loss of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth. There are Race cards available locally & a Go Fund me account has been set up for anyone who may not be able to attend on the night – search Mia’s Mouse Race Night.

Swinford Camera Club

Meetings take place in the Gateway hotel at 8pm on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month. If you are looking to take up a new hobby, why not try photography? Come along to a meeting and see if you’d like it. As always, new members are always very welcome, especially beginners.

Swinford & District Gardening Club

This year Swinford & District Gardening Club visited Waterford and surrounding areas on their Summer tour 24th-26th June. The organising committee would like to thank all those who travelled and helped to make the tour an outstanding success.

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social activities club for over 55’s who meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We play a variety of fun games including Boccia, skittles, ball and bean bag games which are part of the Go for Life Games. A parachute game was added in January where the idea is to balance a ball and other items on the parachute.  All games are designed to be played sitting or standing. Dates for the next few games are as follows:-

The schedule for the month of July for the weekly traditional music sessions is as follows.

Swinford Comhaltas Summer workshops

Scoil Cheoil Siamsa, Swinford’s annual week of afternoon music and singing classes, begins Monday 29th, at 3pm in Swinford NS. Classes last an hour and the fee is €25 for the week. Pupils will be accepted today (numbers permitting).

Breege Gleeson, Grace McDonnell and Stephen McDonnell between them will be teaching Banjo, Concertina, Fiddle, Flute, Guitar (not beginners), Mandolin and Tin Whistle. Two more of our great tutors, Dara Ó Héalaí (Dara Healy) and Joseph McNulty will be teaching Button Accordion, Bodhrán and Fiddle. Kathryn Noone will be taking the singing classes, teaching a mixture of ballads and traditional, English and as Gaeilge. Kathryn is a Flute and Tin Whistle tutor also. Gráinne Gleeson is our Comhrá Gaeilge – Conversational Irish – tutor and will make the class (between 6pm and 7pm daily) interesting and fun as well as educational.

Swinford Comhaltas Pageant

Swinford Comhaltas ( Michael Davitt CCE ) and friends are delighted to present our fourth annual Pageant on Bank Holiday Monday, August 5th at 8.30pm. The show , in this special year of Swinford 250 and more is appropriately called “250 years a Growing” – “250 bliain ag fás” .
Two hundred and fifty years of life in Swinford and surrounding parishes will be celebrated with the best of music, song, dance, poetry, drama and narration in Swinford’s historic Cultural Centre. This will be a great night’s entertainment so be sure to be there.

Musical Theatre Summer Camp

Remaining places need to be booked/confirmed soon for the Flare Musical Theatre Summer Camp/workshop to facilitate ordering of costumes etc.

The Musical Theatre Summer Camp which has been organised for the week August 12th to 16th promises to be a great success. Places will be allocated on a “first come first served basis” and quite a few of the places have already been taken. The junior section in particular is filling up rapidly. Times are from 10am to 2pm but we may consider an afternoon session also if numbers are sufficient. Evening session for older teens and adults a possibility too.The Railway Players are delighted to work with Flare Musical Theatre Productions and are planning a musical production in late November/ early December. Price for the August workshops is €50 with reductions for more than one member of a family. Swinford GAA

This weeks draw was held in Melletts and Aisling, Cian and Liam Walsh c/o Mary Walsh, Larch Hill, Swinford won €468. The winning envelope was sold in Eurospar.

Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. The next draw is in Gateway Hotel on Tuesday 30th July Draw envelopes available for €2 each or 3 for €5

First at 1pm Lunchtime Yogalates, this is a 45 minute Class. The second is Yogalates By Candlelight at 7pm and runs for 1 Hour. We start with Yoga Poses so you can start To Heal and Breathe Then Pilates For Strengthening Your Core, then we move on To Stretching To Renew Your Muscles and Help with Posture and Finish with Relaxation. Paddy Bollingbroke 30th Anniversary

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the death of Paddy Bollingbroke in Swinford, all round sportsman and four time All Ireland Handball Champion. To commemorate the event, there will be a gathering in Mellett’s Emporium at 8pm on Wednesday 28th August. It is proposed to have a souvenir booklet published. If you have any stories, anecdotes or photos of Paddy, please send to Joe Mellett 087 2573752.
