Prayer Service for Christian Unity in Killasser Church

On Thursday 24th January at 8pm, an ecumenical service will be held in All Saints Church, Killasser as part of the week of prayer for Christian Unity. The Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, Rt. Revd. Patrick Rooke, will preach at the service which is organised by the Fr Peyton Cluster of parishes. Everybody is invited to attend and will be most welcome. The theme of this year’s service is Justice in the World.

Arthritis Ireland-Mayo Branch

The Mayo branch of Arthritis Ireland are pleased to announce the Be Active with Arthritis classes for Spring 2019 in Swinford. The Be Active with Arthritis programme is an Adapted Exercise Programme developed by Arthritis Ireland and the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. This is a one hour class over 6 weeks directed by a chartered physiotherapist. Places are limited to 12 people per class and cost €36 for all 6 classes. Classes will start in Swinford on January 23rd  at 11.30am in the Cultural Centre (Meeting Room). To book your place book online at arthritisireland.ie or call 01-6470204.

Swinford & District Gardening Club

Swinford & District Gardening Club will hold its annual dinner on 26th January at 7.30 pm in the Gateway Hotel. Everyone is welcome to attend. Ticket: €30. Contact 0877917136 for tickets.

The AGM of Swinford and District Gardening Club will take place on 29th January in the Gateway Hotel at 8.30pm. Refreshments served afterwards. All members are requested to attend.

An Afternoon of Cinema, 1950’s Style

Irish Cinema Audiences Project in collaboration with Age Action Ireland and U3A (University of the Third Age) invite Swinford to an afternoon of cinema, 1950’s style in Swinford Cultural Centre on Friday February 15th, 2019 at 2pm.

The free event will include a screening of a film from the 1950’s, a short presentation about The Irish Cinema Audiences Project and a post film discussion, during the discussion people will be invited to share their memories of cinema in the 1950’s.

Healthcare Support Training

Mayo North East is organising a free Healthcare Support Training Course in Swinford for unemployed people or people in part-time employment. On successful completion of the course learners will have gained a Healthcare Support QQI Level 5 Major award.  Garda Vetting must be successfully completed. Training will commence one day per week in February 2019 and conclude September 2019. 2 Yogalates Classes Run Every Monday In The Cultural Centre Swinford.
First at 1pm Lunchtime Yogalates, this is a 45 minute Class. The second is Yogalates By Candlelight at 7pm and runs for 1 Hour. Both Classes are For Beginners so join anytime and Classes are Pay As You Go. We start with Yoga Poses so you can start To Heal and Breathe Then Pilates For Strengthening Your Core, then we move on To Stretching To Renew Your Muscles and Help with Posture and Finish with Relaxation. Please Bring your own Mat, Blanket and Cushion. This is Good For Chronic Conditions, Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, High Blood Pressure & Fatigue To name a few. Get Connected’ in 2019 – Computer/Internet classes for older learners

Age Action runs beginner and refresher computer/Internet classes (for people aged 55+ who have little or no computer experience, want to learn how to use their device or who are apprehensive of technology. Continuing in February 2019, classes will be held in Swinford Library on Wednesdays from 10:0 0 – 12:00pm. Each course runs for 5 consecutive weeks (2 hours per week) and there is no fee. Participants are generally taught on an individual basis (1:1) so this is a great opportunity to have your own tutor to help you ‘get connected’ in 2019. Laptops/iPads/iPhones/Tablets/Smartphones all welcome OR if you have no device we can provide one for you. (NOTE: these classes are for beginners or for people who wish to refresh/build on their basic skills. One course per person – If you have already taken a course with Age Action since January 2017 you are not eligible to apply.)
