Swinford GAA 50/50 draw

The club 50/50 draw was held in Campbell’s Lounge and Ann Smyth won €235
Envelopes are available in business premises in town and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks or from club officers.
The next draw will be in Eurospar on 25th August. Draw envelopes available for €2 each or 3 for €5.

Swinford Amenity Park Developments

The sod was turned recently on the new development of an Astro-Turf pitch in Swinford Amenity Park. This was carried out by new Minister for Agriculture Dara Calleary TD.

Speaking at the sod turning Philip Durkin-Director of Swinford Amenity park welcomed all and thanked Minister Calleary for honouring the Amenity Park with his first official sod turning as minister. Mr Durkin said  “The Amenity Park appreciated the support from Peter Leahy- Mayo LGFA Senior Manager, Yvonne Mc Evilly Mayo LGFA Chairperson, Ita Hannon, Connacht LGFA administer, Regina Mullaney, Chairperson Swinford Killasser LGFA, Swinford Killasser ladies, Justin Salmon & James Golden  of Mayo North East, Kieran Grealy, Conrad Harley,  Austin Meehan and Declan Ginnelly Mayo County Council, Pat Dunne School Principal-Scoil Muire agus Padraig.”  He also thanked Joanne Grehan Director of Service – Mayo County Council for her assistance in the project and the original Amenity park and Lotto committee members.

The Astro-turf will enhance the facility and will open new opportunities for the community. The Astro-turf will be constructed to the highest standard with additional shock pad underlay and to full GAA/FAI synthetic surface specification. The 80m X 48m pitch will have a net divide that will allow for two 5 a side soccer cross pitch.  The full surface will be used for Gaelic training and warm ups.

The Astro Development will be open to all and will be focused on Ladies Gaelic Football. It will cost €230,000 to complete and will be funded by the Swinford Lotto Committee and  Mayo North East Leader Project.
