Siamsa Sraide Official Launch

The official press launch of this years programme for Siamsa Sraide takes place at 7pm on Thursday 9th July in Campbell’s Lounge.

The programme will be launched by Professor Travis Price from Washington University who is directing work on the first part of a famine commemorative walk including the Paupers Grave in Swinford.

The press launch is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Spirit Of Place 2015 Official Unveiling

All in the Swinford community are invited to the official unveiling of The Spirit Of Place installation ‘Procession of the Souls’ at 5:45pm on Friday 10th July.

The procession will start at Swinford Parish Church going to the Paupers’ Graveyard for Mass and Blessing. This is followed by community celebrations with refreshments in the Swinford Cultural Centre.

Swinford Men’s Shed & Marie Keating Foundation

The Marie Keating Foundation mobile information unit will be in Swinford from 3pm on Thursday 16th July. The units are stocked with take-home information leaflets and packs on the various cancers plus nurses are available to talk to people on a one-to-one basis in a private area on board about any concerns that they may have about cancer, either for themselves or for someone else such as a family member or friend.

In addition and in conjunction with Swinford Men’s Shed, there will be a talk in regard to men’s cancer at 7pm on Thursday 16th July in the Gateway Hotel.
This talk is open to everybody and all are encouraged to attend.

Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Draw

Congratulations to Damien Tansey of Killasser who won €1185 in the Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Monthly Draw which was held in Frank’s Place on Sunday 5th July.

Damien purchased his lucky envelope in Carramore N.S.

Meelick Summer Camps

Summer Camps will be running in the County Montessori at Collagh, Meelick for the following dates -:

• 13th July – 17th July
• 20th July – 24th July
• 27th July – 31st July

Running from 10am to 1pm daily (Flexible if necessary)
€50 per week – discount for families.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trips

Swinford Gardening Club outings are always enjoyable and an ideal way to visit new and exciting places. On Sunday 19th July, they will be visiting Strokestown Park House Famine Museum and Garden and their three day tour of Wicklow and Kildare will be leaving Swinford on Monday 10th August.

The Osprey Hotel, Naas will be the base for the tour with visits to Belvedere House & Gardens, Newbridge Silver Museum, Newbridge Shopping Centre, Glendalough, Russborough House & Gardens, Blessington Lakes, Fern Hill Garden Centre and a guided tour of Curragh Military Barracks & Museum.

Cost of tour: €240 pp sharing, single supplement €60.
Non-members welcome.

Lough Derg Pilgrimage

The Achonry Diocese is organising a three day pilgrimage to Lough Derg from Monday to Wednesday 20th – 22nd July.

Island admission €70 for adults, €65 for seniors, €59.50 for students.

St. Michael’s National School, Kinaffe, celebrates its centenary this year.

Swinford Drama Group

Swinford Drama Group will be performing a Song Dance & Drama Street Show for the Siamsa Sraide on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th Aug starting at 6pm.

New members are always welcome.

Siamsa Sraide Workshops

The Siamsa Sraide Committee are running workshops for a week prior to the festival. Classes are in creative / hip hop dance and West African Drumming. Classes will be held in Scoil Muire agus Treasa and are free of charge.

Dance classes are for boys and girls aged 6 – 17 years. Drumming classes are for boys and girls aged 8 -17 years. Classes are limited to 30 pupils.

Pupils will give a street performance on Monday 3rd August.

Scoil Cheoil Siamsa Sraide

The Michael Davitt CCE are running traditional music classes in Scoil Muire agus Treasa for one week prior to Siamsa Sraide starting on Monday 27th July.

Classes are for beginners and improvers on tin whistle, banjo & bodhran.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s draw was worth €835 and was won by Ruadhan Lyne & Rachel Halligan c/o Fiona Murtagh Halligan. The next Swinford GAA 50/50 draw will take place in Padraic Horkan’s on Tuesday 14th July.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Phil Coulter To Play In Swinford Church

Siamsa Seipeil is bringing the one and only Phil Coulter to Swinford on Friday 31st July. Composer, producer and performer, Phil is the best-selling Irish artist of his generation. He will be joined by some very special guests on the night, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Swinford Agricultural Show

The 27th Swinford Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday 15th August at the Heeran Farm, Kiltimagh Road, Swinford.

They will have a full programme of family events and the show committee extends an invitation to anybody who would like to assist with the organisation of the event to contact any members of the committee.

Sponsorship of an event or class by a business or an individual would be much appreciated and anyone interested in supporting is again asked to contact any show officer or committee member.

Individuals, clubs and organisations interested in putting on an activity at the show are also asked to get in touch with any member of the show committee.
