Siamsa Sráide Official Opening

The countdown is on to the start of the 31st Siamsa Sráide in Swinford. The festival will be officially opened this Friday 31st July at 6pm in the Gateway Hotel.

An action packed programme is once again in place to suit people of all ages and interests. Pick up a programme in any of the local shops and businesses.

Phil Coulter To Play In Swinford Church

There is huge interest in the performance of world renowned Composer, Producer and Performer Phil Coulter in Swinford this Friday 31st July. He is performing as part of the ‘Siamsa Seipeil’ festival. Phil will be accompanied by special guest vocalist Geraldine Brannigan in what promises to be a very entertaining night and a treat for the true music fan.

Buy your tickets now for an evening in the company of Phil Coulter in the wonderful venue that is Swinford Church.

Swinford Indoor Country Market

The monthly indoor country market will take place in the Swinford Cultural Centre on Saturday 1st August from 9:30am to 2:30pm.

A large array of stalls with fresh produce available on the day, plus the Railway Café will be open as usual. So why not drop in and enjoy all that will be on offer.

Joe Keegan To Perform At Siamsa Sráide

Joe Keegan from the BBC TV series The Voice will be making an appearance at this year’s Siamsa Sráide Festival on Tuesday 4th August.

The Irish singer, musician and dancer from Manchester will be performing at 2:30pm – 3pm on the main stage as part of the Mayo Manchester Tradfest. Joe will be appearing with Irish Pipers from the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band.

The Mayo Manchester Tradfest is a six day festival based in and around Ballina featuring over 500 performers from Mayo and Manchester performing at eight official events and forty two fringe events. It is being supported by Failte Ireland, Mayo.ie, The Western People, The Catholic Universe, Ballina Chamber, the Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business Group and the Siamsa Sráide Festival.

Church Gate Collection

The annual Siamsa Sráide Church Gate Collection will be held on Saturday 1st August and Sunday 2nd August.

Siamsa Sráide Céilís

Siamsa Sráide is renowned for its Crossroads Céilís. On Sunday 2nd August, The Glenside Céilí Band will be performing from 8pm to 11pm and on Tuesday 4th August, The Copperplate Céilí Band will provide the music from 3pm to 6pm for set dances, waltzes and quick steps.

Cemetery Masses

Weather permitting, Mass will be celebrated in Meelick Cemetery on Sunday 2nd August at 10am, in Kilconduff Cemetery on Monday 3rd August at 6:30pm and in Midfield Cemetery on Friday 14th August at 7:30pm.

Síamsa Sráide Photography Competition

A photography competition will take place during the Síamsa Sráide beginning on Friday 31st July. The themes for the competition are Scene/Landscape and Action Shot. Entry is FREE!

Competition is open to 3 age categories; U-12’s, 12 to 16yrs and 16 to 18yrs. Photos have to be taken by the entrant. Photos must be printed out 6 x 4 or 7 x 5 for display in the Gateway Hotel. Entrants name, theme, age & contact info on back of each photo entered please. Photos to be left into Gateway Hotel from Friday 31st July and will be on display there for Síamsa week.

Entries close at 5pm Wednesday 5th August and winners will be announced later that night and on Swinford.ie. Cash prizes for 1st and 2nd in each age group as well as 1 year’s membership to Swinford Camera Club for the winner in the U-16’s & U-18’s categories.

Killasser Heritage Tour

A Heritage Tour of Killasser, guided by Bernard O’Hara will take place on Monday 3rd August, leaving from the Killasser Community Centre at 2pm.

A bus will be provided to take some of those who wish to come.
Refreshments will be available in the Community Centre afterwards.

Siamsa Teenage Disco

A teenage disco will be held in the Swinford Cultural Centre at 9pm on Monday 3rd August. DJ will be Donncha Hanks Music, Westport. Admission €6

Swinford Drama Group

Swinford Drama Group will be performing a Song Dance & Drama Street Show for the Siamsa Sráide on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th Aug starting at 6pm.

New members are always welcome.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trips

Swinford Gardening Club outings are always enjoyable and an ideal way to visit new and exciting places and their three day tour of Wicklow and Kildare will be leaving Swinford on Monday 10th August.

The Osprey Hotel, Naas will be the base for the tour with visits to Belvedere House & Gardens, Newbridge Silver Museum, Newbridge Shopping Centre, Glendalough, Russborough House & Gardens, Blessington Lakes, Fern Hill Garden Centre and a guided tour of Curragh Military Barracks & Museum.

Cost of tour: €240 pp sharing, single supplement €60.
Non-members welcome.

Swinford Agricultural Show

The 27th Swinford Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday 15th August at the Heeran Farm, Kiltimagh Road, Swinford.

They will have a full programme of family events and the show committee extends an invitation to anybody who would like to assist with the organisation of the event to contact any members of the committee.

Sponsorship of an event or class by a business or an individual would be much appreciated and anyone interested in supporting is again asked to contact any show officer or committee member.

Individuals, clubs and organisations interested in putting on an activity at the show are also asked to get in touch with any member of the show committee.

Swinford Clean Street League

This years Swinford Clean Street League is now in under way. Due to the poor weather earlier in the year, our Independent Adjudicators decided to delay the judging of the Clean Street League. Judging will now take place over the months of July, August and September.

There will again be two categories in the Clean Street League, Streets & Estates and the four categories that the streets & estates will be judged on are as follows:

• Litter Control
• Planting / Flowers
• Presentation
• Overall Impression

Swinford Tidy Towns Flower Planters

Swinford Tidy Towns recently installed flower planters at various locations in the town. We would ask local residents to help us out & adopt a planter to look after.

We will be making more planters in the future for other locations around the town. Please get in contact with Swinford Tidy Towns if you know of a suitable location.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €720 and was won by Kevin McDonagh of Cashel, Midfield.

The next draw will take place in The White House on Tuesday 4th August.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.
