The Butterfly Garden

The committee members of The Butterfly Garden community project in Swinford would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone in the community and elsewhere who donated to and participated in this year’s VHI Virtual Mini-Marathon event in aid of The Butterfly Garden.

The Butterfly Garden is a community project started by a group of bereaved parents in Swinford, Co. Mayo. The aim of the project is to create a memorial garden that brings comfort to bereaved families who have faced miscarriages, stillbirth, infant and child deaths, to know you’re not alone in a time that can feel very lonely. We want to create a hopeful space showing love for the little lives taken too soon.

The first fundraising event for this project kicked off in early October 2020, in line with Wave of Light as part of Baby Loss Awareness Month. A number of ladies completed 10k in their own way for the VHI Virtual Mini-Marathon, between the 1st and 10th October 2020, raising much-needed funds for this meaningful project.

On October 15th, a number of businesses lit up in pink and blue in support of Baby Loss Awareness day, including Deerpark Manor B&B, Blue Thunder and the Court House in Swinford.

The Butterfly Garden would like to thank everyone involved with this including Councillor Michael Smyth and Devilment Marketing for their assistance.
