Swinford Men’s Shed & Marie Keating Foundation

The Marie Keating Foundation mobile information unit will be in Swinford from 3pm on Thursday 16th July. The units are stocked with take-home information leaflets and packs on the various cancers plus nurses are available to talk to people on a one-to-one basis in a private area on board about any concerns that they may have about cancer, either for themselves or for someone else such as a family member or friend.

In addition and in conjunction with Swinford Men’s Shed, there will be a talk in regard to men’s cancer at 7pm on Thursday 16th July in the Gateway Hotel.
This talk is open to everybody and all are encouraged to attend.

Dylan’s Path To Walk

There will be a fundraising dance on Saturday 18th July in Julian’s of Midfield in aid of ‘Dylan’s Path To Walk’. Doors open at 9:30pm. Music by Brendan McGee, followed by dancing with La Bamba. There will also be an auction on the night.

There is a free return bus running from Aughamore and Kilkelly. For more details, please contact Frank Flynn on 087 9402013

There will also be a bucket collection for Dylan outside Hyde Park in Roscommon before the Connacht Final on Sunday 19th July.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trips

Swinford Gardening Club outings are always enjoyable and an ideal way to visit new and exciting places. On Sunday 19th July, they will be visiting Strokestown Park House Famine Museum and Garden and their three day tour of Wicklow and Kildare will be leaving Swinford on Monday 10th August.

The Osprey Hotel, Naas will be the base for the tour with visits to Belvedere House & Gardens, Newbridge Silver Museum, Newbridge Shopping Centre, Glendalough, Russborough House & Gardens, Blessington Lakes, Fern Hill Garden Centre and a guided tour of Curragh Military Barracks & Museum.

Cost of tour: €240 pp sharing, single supplement €60.
Non-members welcome.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €839 and was won by Kevin Doyle of Tower Hardware.

The next Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw will take place in Boland’s on Tuesday 21st July.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Lough Derg Pilgrimage

The Achonry Diocese is organising a three day pilgrimage to Lough Derg from Monday to Wednesday 20th – 22nd July.

Island admission €70 for adults, €65 for seniors, €59.50 for students.

Introduction to Computers and Career Planning

This course is designed for unemployed people in order to provide the fundamental computer competencies needed to search for and apply for jobs. Training will be provided in essential Internet skills such as setting up an Email, Web Browsing and Microsoft Word. 1-to-1 support will be provided to individuals in order for them to meet their education, training or employment needs.

Venue: Sport and Leisure Centre, Foxford.

Start Date: Tuesday 28th July and each consecutive Tuesday for four weeks.

The course is free to qualifying applicants.
Places are limited and early booking is advised.

Swinford Agricultural Show

The 27th Swinford Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday 15th August at the Heeran Farm, Kiltimagh Road, Swinford.

They will have a full programme of family events and the show committee extends an invitation to anybody who would like to assist with the organisation of the event to contact any members of the committee.

Sponsorship of an event or class by a business or an individual would be much appreciated and anyone interested in supporting is again asked to contact any show officer or committee member.

Individuals, clubs and organisations interested in putting on an activity at the show are also asked to get in touch with any member of the show committee.

The members of Michael Davitt Branch CCE extend heartiest congratulations to all the young people from the area who represented Mayo so wonderfully well at the Connacht Fleadh in Ballymote recently.

Well done and thank you to Katie Mullaney, Sarah Mullaney, Niamh Henry, Katie O’Brien, Dean O’Toole, and Maeve Hyland. Congratulations and good luck to Alannah Thornburgh, Eugene Henry, Grace McDonnell and Stephen McDonnell who will represent Connacht at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligo this August. Swinford will be cheering for you!

St. Michael’s National School Centenary Celebrations

St. Michael’s National School, Kinaffe, celebrates its centenary this year.
