Mayo North East Education/Training Programmes
Mayo North East has organised the following education/training programmes which will be held in Swinford during the month of August – Safe Pass, Occupational First Aid Training and Food Safety Training.
All courses are free to unemployed people.
Hand Held Pesticide Application Training will be delivered to people aged between 18 and 24 years which will provide them with the skills to work in a variety of horticultural and agricultural settings.

Fundraising Pub Quiz
There will be a fundraising pub quiz in The Sheepwalk Bar on Friday 14th August at 9pm in aid of Mellon Educate, building educational facilities in the most impoverished areas of South Africa.
2 tickets for the Mayo v Dublin All-Ireland Semi Final are up for grabs in the raffle, along with loads of other prizes. Team of 4 cost €20.
(There will be a prize for the most original and inventive team name!)
So come along and show off your intelligence…. or maybe sense of humour!
Swinford Agricultural Show
The 27th Swinford Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday 15th August at the Heeran Farm, Kiltimagh Road, Swinford.
A full programme of cattle, sheep, equine, poultry and dog competitions will be held. Lots of family fun and entertainment will also be on offer. Sean Nós dancing workshop with Tommy Stenson, Music by Everyday Solution, Bonny Baby competition, children’s fancy dress and most appropriately dressed female/male.
Entries are now being taken for all sections and show schedules are now available. If you have never entered an item in the show before, now is your chance. Pick up a schedule of classes at their office in the Swinford National School which is open

Thursday 13th August from 11am to 7pm
Friday 14th August from 11am to 2pm
Closing date for entries is 2pm on Friday 14th August

Swinford Clean Street League
This years Swinford Clean Street League is now in under way. Due to the poor weather earlier in the year, our Independent Adjudicators decided to delay the judging of the Clean Street League. Judging will now take place over the months of July, August and September.
There will again be two categories in the Clean Street League, Streets & Estates and the four categories that the streets & estates will be judged on are as follows:
• Litter Control
• Planting / Flowers
• Presentation
• Overall Impression

Swinford Tidy Towns Flower Planters
Swinford Tidy Towns recently installed flower planters at various locations in the town. We would ask local residents to help us out & adopt a planter to look after.
We will be making more planters in the future for other locations around the town. Please get in contact with Swinford Tidy Towns if you know of a suitable location.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw
This week’s draw was worth €705 and was won by Fionn & Shay McDonagh c/o Jean McDonagh of Cashel, Swinford.
The next Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw will take place in Mellett’s on Tuesday 18th August.
Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Swinford Foroige Club
Swinford Foroige Club will resume meetings on Friday 11th September.
Enrolment will be held from 7-9pm on Friday 28th August in the Swinford Cultural Centre, with membership forms to be filled in on the night by a parent or guardian.
The club is only open at present to secondary school pupils and a fee of €20 is payable on the night for insurance. Parents/Guardians are also required to take turns with supervision at least four times in the year.

Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Draw
Congratulations to Bradán Boland of Cloonlumney who won €1275 in the Killasser Community Centre 50/50 Monthly Draw which was held in Frank’s Place on Sunday 9th August.
