Annual General Meeting

agm_post_it

The AGM of Swinford Club was held on Sunday 20th in Gateway Hotel. There was a very poor attendance by the members. Unfortunately club chairman Shane Campbell was unable to attend and Michael Murtagh stepped in to chair the meeting.Reports were given by the club secretary Katie Kelly and club treasurer Vincent Armstrong. The fiances of the club are healthy at the moment but a lot of expense has just been incurred on securing Robert McCallion Memorial Park after a landslide earlier in the new year. The bill for this work has not been received yet but will most likely wipe a large portion of our bank balance.

Michael Murtagh gave the Chairmans address as prepared  by Shane Campbell. Thanks was given to all who help out in the club from the club officers to all the coaches from Under 6 to senior level. There are great numbers at underage levels upto Under 16 and the Cul Camp was very well attended. At minor level we were approached by Parke to amalgamate for the year. As numbers were also low with ourselves it was decided to amalgamate. In 2017 we will have to look at the numbers and see what is best for the club. The junior team had a very good year winning the Canon Henry Cup and winning 9 out of 11 games in the league and we were very unlucky not to get promotion. The senior team won one Championship game and retained their status for 2017. The League started off well but as the year went on the team struggled and only with Cill Chomain conceding to Ballyhaunis yesterday was our league status confirmed for the coming year. In addition there was a change of management during the year and thanks to Pat O’Neill, Michael Devaney and Eamon Molloy for their work and to Sean Kavanagh, Brian Galvin, Seamus McDonagh for stepping in.Work is progressing on locating a training ground and a number of potential locations have been identified. A lot of work has been carried out on our own ground in the last few weeks at a cost but it will last for many many years. Much thanks to Swinford Golf club and their Captain Martin Griffin for all their assistance. Also thanks to Jimmy McDonagh, Pat Durkan and Paul McDonnell for all their work on maintaining Robert McCallion Memorial Park.

There was change of officers as club treasurer has stepped down to be replaced by Deirdre Dunleavy. Much thanks to Vincent for his work over the past three years. He will be staying on as vice Treasurer. The club Chairman, Secretary and PRO are staying unopposed for the coming year. The remainder of the club executive will be appointed at the next club meeting.

A very lively discussion took place on a motion before the AGM that the club should only enter one team in the Mayo GAA senior league for 2017. After some a good discussion the matter was left over until management has been appointed to the Intermediate team and a meeting takes place with the  club players.

The meeting then concluded.
