Ladies Minor Team Beat Carnacon in County Semi Final Replay

Swinford Killasser Ladies Minor team have qualified for the County Final after a 6-11 to 1-06 win over Carnacon in Saturday’s Ladies Minor Semi-final replay. Having drawn the original semi-final 3-06 to 1-12 at Swinford Amenity Park, the girls faced the daunting challenge of travelling to the home of Mayo Ladies strongest footballing Club for this replay. Rather than being overwhelmed by the challenge, the Swinford Killasser girls seemed to relish it.

As in most replays, the team who learned the most from the drawn game would prevail in the replay. On Saturday, Swinford Killasser controlled this replay from start to finish. The girls played with such passion and confidence, that their West Mayo opponents simply could not live with them. Six fantastic goals were complimented by an exhibition of fine point taking.

While in attack Swinford Killasser were tearing their hosts defence to shreds scoring 4-07 in the first half, the winners defending was water tight; conceding only one point in that same half. In truth this game was over at half time.

The second half afforded Swinford Killasser the opportunity to use subs in preparation for the final. With the quality of these introductions the girls continued to dominate this game and only a few late consolations scores brought the winning margin to 6-11 to 1-06.

On Saturday next, Swinford Killasser will take on the might of Knockmore in the County Final at 2pm. This will be Swinford Killasser Ladies GFCs sixth County Final so far in 2014. It will also be our second Ladies Minor Final in what is already one of the greatest years for our Club.

While our Minor Ladies deservedly celebrated the impressive display in qualifying for the County Final, they are also very aware that it will take a repeat performance in Saturdays Final to win a Minor Ladies County Title. We wish our Minor girls the best of luck in Saturdays County Final. We urge everyone to come along and give the girls the support they will need to overcome Knockmore.
