Fashion Show Raises Over €3600 For Youth Memorial Garden

A recent fundraising fashion show in aid of the construction of Swinford’s Youth Memorial Garden was a major success, not only was a sizeable amount of money raised on the night but it was also a brilliant night enjoyed by all of the community in attendance at the Gateway Hotel last Friday night – 10th April.

After opening proceedings with a beautiful account of the importance of the garden, Joe Mellett then handed over to compère for the night, Deirdre Fahey. She introduced all of the models showing us the latest fashions from Campbell’s Fashion, Forkan’s Menswear and Tesco. Modelling for Campbell’s Fashion were Angela Meehan, Connie Gillespie, Mary Murphy, Karen Clynch, Ros Kirby, Aysling Price, Fiona Ryan, Joanne McNicholas, Marie Moore, Mary Ryland, Ann Taylor, Siobhan Henry, Nicola McGann, Brid Noone, and Mary Woodlock.

Whilst Forkan’s Menswear was represented by Liam Foy, Padraig Noone, Alan Carter, Pat Kirby, Fergal Harte, Kieran Lynskey, and Kevin Moran.

Aoibheann O’Rourke, Shauna O’Rourke, James Owens, Sorcha and Aoibheann Costello, Calum Forkan, Ria Foy, Cora Durkan, Micky Durcan and Aisling and Laura Payton did a great job modelling Tesco’s Children’s Range.

During the interval, local up-and-coming band Everyday Solution gave DJ John Carter a break from the decks and performed a collection of songs after Irish dancers Caoimhe O’Brien, Orla Hanahoe and Ciara Forkan had danced their way down the catwalk.

The committee would like to thank all of the following who donated prizes for the amazing raffle held at the end of the show: Wavelengths, Couture, Turlagh Hair, Marcella Payton, Oraflame Cosmetics, Campbell’s Fashion, Debbie Meadows, Swinford Photography, O’Connell and O’Donnells Pharmacies, Pat Kelly’s Auto, Allure and Chill Hairdressers Castlebar, Tara Cafe, Eileen O’Keefe, Julie Gallagher, Moore’s, Lambe’s, Presents, Tesco, Eurospar, Gateway Hotel, The Flower Cabin, Phil McNeela, Liona Roche, and Green Room Beauty Studio.
The raffle itself raised over €1000 and it’s through the generosity of those named that this was possible.

Also a big thank you to Couture, Wavelengths, Mary Michael, Allure and Chill for taking on the mantle of hairdressers for the models, and Megan Durcan who took on the role of makeup artist and her work was first class with so many different colours and looks to suit all. And to all those who helped with the stage and keeping the show flowing without an issue namely Danny Gill and Aras Attracta for the stage, O’Hara’s Carpets, Joan from the Flower Cabin for the lovely flower display on stage, and thanks to Helen Gillogly, Kathleen Fadden, and Pauline McGann for organising all the models off stage.

The total raised for this great cause was just over €3600 and the committee would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way towards the final figure, and also Cathal Kelly and the staff of the Gateway Hotel for hosting the show. Very special thanks must also go to Mary Woodlock for her tireless and fantastic efforts in organising the show and ensuring everything was perfect on the night.
