We are really looking forward to the launch of Jack Foley’s new book “Swinford Spalpeens”. The launch takes place in The Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Saturday next, 4th March at 4pm. Local musicians will provide entertainment from 3.30pm and everybody is welcome.
This book focuses on the stories of emigrants from Swinford and surrounding east mayo areas from the 1800s up to the 1960s and also features interviews and photographs. Special emphasis on migratory agricultural workers.
Do come along for what should be a very interesting book launch – especially for anyone who had family or friends who emigrated/migrated. Jack Foley is a native of Corthoon on the Swinford/Charlestown road. Bernard O’Hara will also be speaking. Bernard is a native of Killasser and the author of many books dealing with Irish history.
