Killasser to host an evening of Prayer, Readings, Music and Song.

An Evening of Prayer, Readings, Music and Song will take place on October 6th at 6pm in Killasser Church. A number of special guests which will include Annette Griffin, Brenda Grealish, Cathal Gavin, Stephen Doherty, Maeve Hyland, Tommy Stenson, Bernadette Ruddy and Aoibheann Brennan will perform for the occasion. Please come and pray, especially for all the people who are ill in Killasser and surrounding areas. Entry is free but an optional donation for Mayo Roscommon Hospice will be encouraged on the night.

 

Buildings of Mayo Photo Exhibition

This touring photographic exhibition will visit Swinford Cultural Centre this month. It promotes the publication of the Mayo survey of the built heritage of the county. The Photo exhibition will take place from October 12th 2019 19:00 – 20-00 (Launch evening) Until  October 25th 2019. It will also be open for people to view from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday (Except when the hall is booked). All welcome.

Then on Sunday October 13th there will be a children’s art workshop.

All Aboard!  Children’s Workshop.

This two-hour workshop delivered by Shaza O’Hara will explore this former railway structure and the adaptive re-use of buildings through various mediums including printing and collage. This project aims to develop each child’s self-expression by fostering and nurturing that curiosity in this fun-filled and engaging Art class.

Swinford Indoor Country Market

Swinford Indoor Country Market is celebrating its 4th birthday on Saturday the 5th October from 9.30 -2pm in the Cultural Centre, Swinford.

The monthly market is proud to regularly boast a wide range of locally sourced produce. They have a fabulous range of breads, cakes, plants, vegetables, honey, eggs, photography, Aloe Vera,  and a huge range of crafts. A lot of the crafters are now taking orders for christmas, booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Call in to browse and catch up.  You can relax and have lunch or a coffee in the railway cafe after your shopping.

 

Swinford Agricultural Show AGM

The Swinford Agricultural Show Society AGM will take place on Thursday the 10th of October. AGM to be held in the Gateway Hotel in Swinford at 8pm. Next year will be the 32nd anniversary of Swinford Agricultural Show, new ideas, new members are all welcome. Night of appreciation afterwards for all show sponsors, supporters, committee members, stewards and volunteers. Photos from show day will be on display on the night. Tea, coffee and finger food will be served.

 

Lourdes to Knock 2,000km ultra charity cycle

The organisers of the Lourdes to Knock Cycle are delighted to announce that they have raised €32,866 for 2 deserving charities – Down Syndrome Ireland West and Pieta House/Irish Farming Association collaboration. The fund will be split 50/50, so the 2 worthy charities will receive €16,433 each.

They want to  thank  co-sponsors – Lely Center Mullingar & AgriLand. A special thanks also to the Gateway Hotel and Swinford 250 for their generosity and a special mention to all the cyclists, support crew, organising committee and everyone who donated in any way at all, they are truly grateful.

Befriending Programme.

Mayo North East are looking for volunteers to befriend 3 Syrian families in Swinford. The volunteers will assist the families in home management and social activities. Two people will visit the families for 1-2 hours a week at a time that suits the families. Volunteers will be required to take part in an interview, Garda vetting and 2 training sessions. Volunteers must be over 18.

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social activities club for over 55’s who meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We play a variety of games including Boccia, bucket ball and parachute games. We also play skittles, ball and bean bag games which are part of the Go for Life Games designed to provide gentle exercise. You decide what you enjoy and you can try a variety of games or stick to one, it’s up to you. From time we add new games and are open to suggestions and new ideas. All games are designed to be played sitting or standing.
We are always looking for new members and if you would like to help out in any way, we would be happy to meet you. Just come along to any of our games mornings or call us on 087 904 9723

The ‘Getting Started’ programme aims to make over 55’s comfortable using a computer / tablet / ipad / smartphone and the internet. Tutoring is usually on a 1:1 basis in a relaxed atmosphere. Classes are 2 hours once a week for 5 weeks.

When: Wednesdays from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

We start with Yoga Poses so you can start To Heal and Breathe Then Pilates For Strengthening Your Core, then we move on To Stretching To Renew Your Muscles and Help with Posture and Finish with Relaxation.
