Féile na Samhna 2017
The 7th annual Féile na Samhna will take place in Swinford on the weekend of October 28th to 30th.
We are planning a feast of traditional music, song and dance hosted by Michael Davitt Comhaltas and supported by the businesses of the town, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann, An Roinn Cultúir, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta and Mayo Co Council
Admission free to all events.
Saturday 28th:
11.00am to 1.00pm: Singing workshops – English and as Gaeilge – with Marianne Knight, Síle Ui Mhongáin and Marie Anne Noone – for children and adults. Venue : Swinford NS
2.30pm: Fáiltiú and the official opening in the Gateway Hotel will be followed by a very entertaining afternoon, “Marching to the beat of the drum with the fifes and pipes”. There will be an interactive presentation with tunes and a chat to celebrate the legacy of the marching bands from Killasser, Killaturley, Meelick, Midfield and Swinford. An afternoon not to be missed. Special guests for the weekend include, among others, Jack and Claire Foley, Marianne McAleer and Pat and Jane O’Toole
9.00pm : Oíche Amhránaíochta. Enjoy a night of singing, storytelling, recitation and caint in the Meeting Room at Melletts of Market Street.

Sunday 29th
The Midfield Pipe Band will give a recital at the church after last Mass and then march down the town and finish with a recital on Main Street.
5.00pm: Everyone is cordially invited to “The Rambling House” in The Gateway Hotel. There will be a great party with music, singing and dancing, storytelling and recitation. Everybody who comes to visit and celebrate will be treated to a traditional Irish welcome with the best of traditional fare – we’ll even make boxty! The theme this year focuses on the welcome extended to returning emigrants. “They’re landed” ! Fáilte abhaile to the “Yanks”!
Monday30th. 11.00am: Finish the weekend with an enjoyable historical stroll around Swinford with Michael Comer followed by a cuppa and a chat.

Kidzone Swinford
Kidzone Childcare Swinford is hosting a Midterm Halloween Camp from Tues 31st Oct – Friday 3rd Nov. The camp is open to all children aged 4-13 years and runs from 8am – 6pm daily.
Swinford Indoor Country market
This month the Swinford Indoor Country Market will take place on Saturday the 4th Nov in Swinford Cultural Centre from 9.30am until 2pm.
The market regularly boast a wide range of locally sourced produce and this month is no exception.
There is a fabulous range of regular local stallholders who provide the Market with fresh vegetables, breads & cakes, and locally grown plants, as well as stunning photography, jewellery and a variety of beautiful handmade crafts. Relax and have lunch in the Railway Café after you browse the stalls.
Zest for Living
Swinford community group, Active Minds, in partnership with Mayo North East is organizing a Zest for Life training programme in the Cultural Centre, Swinford on Wednesday 8th November at 8.00pm. It will be held each Wednesday for six weeks. The training will encourage you to engage with a greater sense of self-awareness while creating a healthy self-esteem. You will learn new life skills and meet new friends.

Jiving Halloween Camp and Workshop‘
Jiving Juniors One Day Workshop in Swinford Cultural Centre on Thursday November 2nd from 10am-2.30pm. For children age 5 and upwards. A fun day where children and teens will learn how to Jive, Waltz, Line dance and more with Irelands only Social Dance School for kids. €15 per child.

Disability Equality Training
As part of Mayo Social Inclusion Awareness Week Mayo North East has organised Disability Equality Training to be held in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Thursday 19th October at 7.00pm-9.30pm. Disability Equality Training is a dynamic, focused approach to changing attitudes and practices towards the greater inclusion in communities of people with disabilities. Carers Regional Forum

The forum is great place to meet carers from your county and from Galway and Roscommon and to voice any issues/concerns you have in your local area.

KCC-Social Dancing
Anyone interested in learning how to dance? A dance class will start at 8.30pm on Thursday 7th September in Killasser Community Centre. The classes are suitable for beginners and Improvers and you will have an opportunity to learn how to Jive, Waltz, Foxtrot and try other dance styles. Volunteers Needed
Volunteers Tutors needed to tutor over 55’s on computers/tablets/smartphones to help learners navigate the Internet and gain confidence using their device
Age Action runs courses (each course lasts for 5 weeks, 2 hours per week) in the Swinford Library, on Wednesdays from 10.00 and 12.00. Classes are generally run on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis and both tutors and learners find the classes rewarding and fun. Good computer skills and fluent English needed but patience and good humour just as important! We’re looking for interested tutors for the new cycle starting in September.
