Fun Run/Walk

Culmore 5km fun run/ walk on Monday 3rd of June in aid of Culmore NS, Swinford . Registration at 11am, 1.5km race for children starts at 12 noon , 5km race starts at 12.30pm. Prizes first male/female runner/walker, first male/female masters (40+), first child per age category, first person with stroller, first person in costume. A lot of spot prizes on the day .

 

Swinford & District Gardening Club

The next meeting will take place at 8.30pm on Tuesday 28th May in the Gateway Hotel.

Horticulturist Peter Mc Menamon will give a talk on ‘Summer in the Garden’ and will also give advice on growing herbs.

Swinford & District Gardening Club Trip

Our destination for this year’s Gardening Trip (24/25/26th June) will be Waterford. We will be staying in the centrally located 4 star Treacy’s Hotel,Spa and Leisure Club. There will be a variety packed itinerary. Some highlights of the tour: a scenic trip from Kilmeaden on the Wexford & Suir Valley steam train, Mount Congreve Gardens, the Viking Triangle including Reginald’s Tower, a tour of Waterford, the Museum of Treasure etc. There will also be an opportunity for shopping and on the way home a visit to a garden centre. Waste Management Workshop.

 Mayo North East have organised a Waste Management Workshop for local community groups which will be delivered by VOICE Ireland. VOICE Ireland are a member-based Irish environmental charity that empowers individuals and local communities to take positive action to conserve our natural resources. VOICE advocates for the government and the corporate sector to adopt environmentally responsible behaviours and for the development of strong national policies on waste and water issues. The workshop will be held on Monday evening May 20th 2019 in The Great National Hotel, Ballina from 7.30pm – 8.30pm with refreshments served afterwards.  The event is free and is funded by the Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme. Swinford Camera Club

Meetings take place in the Gateway hotel at 8pm on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month. If you are looking to take up a new hobby, why not try photography? Come along to a meeting and see if you’d like it. As always, new members are always very welcome, especially beginners.

 

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social activities club for over 55’s who meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We play a variety of fun games including Boccia, skittles, ball and bean bag games which are part of the Go for Life Games. A new parachute game was added in January where the idea is to balance a ball and other items on the parachute. We also added a horse-racing game and others. All games are designed to be played sitting or standing. Individuals and groups welcome.
Dates for the next few games held at the Cultural Centre Swinford 10.30am to12.30pm.

The launch of Fleadh Chonnachta takes place in the Gateway on Thursday evening with reception and entertainment from 7-30pm and launch by Joe Byrne at 8-15pm approx. Trad session to round the evening off.

Musical Theatre Summer Camp/Workshops.

The Railway Players Variety Group in conjunction with Flare Musical Theatre Productions will run a Summer Camp for young people and a series of workshops for older teens and adults from August 12th to 16th. Participants will enjoy fun filled hours of choreography, singing and acting. More details to follow.

Swinford had a long and proud tradition of musical shows/pantomimes and The Railway Players are looking forward to reviving that tradition during this special Swinford 250 year of celebration

Yogalates & Bums & Tums

2 Yogalates Classes Run Every Monday In The Cultural Centre Swinford.
First at 1pm Lunchtime Yogalates, this is a 45 minute Class. The second is Yogalates By Candlelight at 7pm and runs for 1 Hour. Both Classes are For Beginners so join anytime and Classes are Pay As You Go. We start with Yoga Poses so you can start To Heal and Breathe Then Pilates For Strengthening Your Core, then we move on To Stretching To Renew Your Muscles and Help with Posture and Finish with Relaxation. Please Bring your own Mat, Blanket and Cushion. This is Good For Chronic Conditions, Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, High Blood Pressure & Fatigue To name a few. Get Connected’ in 2019 – Computer/Internet classes for older learners

Age Action runs beginner and refresher computer/Internet classes (for people aged 55+ who have little or no computer experience, want to learn how to use their device or who are apprehensive of technology. Continuing in March 2019, classes will be held in Swinford Library on Wednesdays from 10:0 0 – 12:00pm. Each course runs for 5 consecutive weeks (2 hours per week) and there is no fee. Participants are generally taught on an individual basis (1:1) so this is a great opportunity to have your own tutor to help you ‘get connected’ in 2019. Laptops/iPads/iPhones/Tablets/Smartphones all welcome OR if you have no device we can provide one for you. (NOTE: these classes are for beginners or for people who wish to refresh/build on their basic skills. One course per person – If you have already taken a course with Age Action since January 2017 you are not eligible to apply.)
At the moment we still have places for March classes in Swinford Library.

 

Healthcare Support Training

Mayo North East is organising a free Healthcare Support Training Course in Swinford for unemployed people or people in part-time employment. On successful completion of the course learners will have gained a Healthcare Support QQI Level 5 Major award.  Garda Vetting must be successfully completed. Training will commence one day per week in April  2019 and conclude October 2019. Please contact Dolores McNicholas on  0877704251 or email dmcnicholas@mayonortheast.com to register for the course. This training is funded under The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme.
