Swinford Celebrates our National Feast

The 67th Swinford St. Patrick’s day parade with the theme of “building a better community” attracted a large number of participants and floats which were topical, humorous and original.
MC. Padraic Gavin assisted by Colin Cronnolly welcomed all to the event which commenced with prayers and a blessing by Fr. Dermot Meehan PP. Special guests were Grand Marshal Michaela Walsh and Catriona Roughneen, Blath na Feile.
Speaking at the prize presentation function in the Gateway Hotel on Sunday night parade Co-ordinator Mr Francis Brennan thanked all who had taken part, the standard of the floats clearly reflected the huge amount of thought and creative design work put in by so many individual organisations and groups. He welcomed Celine Goff, Jacinta and Frank, the wife and family of the late Pat Goff who was an adjudicator of the parade for over 40 years. The overall parade award is named, “The Pat Goff Memorial Award” after the late Pat Goff.
Mr Brennan thanked Padraic Gavin MC, Colm Cronnolly, Paddy Dyar(adj.), Peter Callaghan, Franny Moore, Brendan Cassidy, Tom Lavin, Peter Geraghty, Tom Foote, Austin Meehan, Kevin Murtagh, The Doyle Family, Philip Irwin, Paul Hyland, Midfield Pipe Band, St. Patrick, Mayo Civil Defence, Mayo Fire Service, Anne & Joe Mc Donnell, as well as all who provided equipment and services which ensured the success of the parade.
