Brabazon Family Memorial
The Brabazon family memorial ceremony will take place in Swinford Today (Wednesday) June 20th, 2018 at 2.30pm. The ceremony will take place in the recently restored Church of Ireland graveyard in Swinford. Six Brabazon family plaques and two Brabazon sarcophagi (in the extant crypt of the demolished St Mary’s church) were discovered following the restoration by Mayo County Council. The ceremony will be a blessing service for the Brabazon family conducted by Canon Andrea Wills of Foxford COI and Fr Dermot Meehan PP Swinford. The plaques will be wall-mounted and the entrance to the crypt cleared.
The hosts are: Michael Brabazon, his daughter Bridget, his son James, and his grandchildren Max and Bella.
Guests are: The Earl & Countess of Meath (Head of the Brabazon Family); Swinford Brabazons; Mayo historians – Anne Chambers, Bernard O’Hara, Nollaig O Muraile, Bridget Clesham and Eamonn Henry; Mayo County Council representatives; Cllr Michael Smyth of Swinford; Joe Mellett, Marie Walsh, Michael Comer, Brendan Cassidy.
All are welcome on this red-letter day for Swinford.
There will be a Swinford historical talk that evening at 8pm in The Gateway Hotel, Main Street chaired by Bernard O’Hara, author of ‘Exploring Mayo’
Minister Opens Swinford Amenity Park Walkway
Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development visited Swinford Amenity Park on Friday and officially opened the new Amenity Walkway. The Walkway is 3m wide and surfaced with a high quality bitmac and traverses around the pitch and stand. It is in total 560m long and a wonderful asset to Swinford. It provides the public with a place to park a car and walk in safety away from vehicular traffic.
The Swinford Saturday Morning walking group who are very appreciative of the fine facility were with the Minister to open the walkway. The walkway was constructed by the Local C.E scheme under the supervision of Pat O’Neill and Frank Harrington Ltd.
Funding was obtained from the Outdoor facility grant from the Department and Mayo County Council and from our Community Lotto.

Swinford Athletics Club
Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development was at the Amenity Park on Friday and officially turned the sod on the new 200m running track. The track, when completed will be a great addition to the towns sporting infrastructure.Pictured with Minister Ring at the sod turning are members of Swinford Athletics club, local representatives Cllr. Michael Smyth, Cllr. Neil Cruise and Senator Michelle Mulherin.
There was no result of the Athletics club 50/50 draw at time of publication.
Mayo Win All Ireland Under 14 B Final
Congratulations goes to 5 Swinford/Killasser Ladies GAA club members Amy Dunleavy, Laura Haran, Caitlin Henry, Coleen Gavin and Danielle Brennan who were on the Mayo U-14 Panel that captured the All Ireland U-14 B Championship on Sunday last. This team have now won the Connacht Blitz, The All Ireland Blitz and now the All Ireland B Final.
