Age Action-Computer Classes

  • Terrified by Technology?
  • Confused by Computers?
  • Illiterate about the Internet?
  • Scared of your Smartphone?

The ‘Getting Started’ programme aims to make over 55’s comfortable using a computer / tablet / ipad / smartphone and the internet. Tutoring is usually on a 1:1 basis in a relaxed atmosphere. Classes are 2 hours once a week for 5 weeks.

Where: Swinford Library

When: Wednesdays from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

From: September 2019-June 2020.

 

Heartfulness, Relaxation and Meditation

Heartfulness, Relaxation & Meditation will take place on Monday 12th August 2019 at 7pm in the Parochial House Swinford.

Free and open to all over 16 years. Contact  086 0700681 if you require further information.

 

Swinford Camera Club

Meetings take place in the Gateway hotel at 8pm on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month. If you are looking to take up a new hobby, why not try photography? Come along to a meeting and see if you’d like it. As always, new members are always very welcome, especially beginners.

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social activities club for over 55’s who meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We play a variety of fun games including Boccia, skittles, ball and bean bag games which are part of the Go for Life Games. A parachute game was added in January where the idea is to balance a ball and other items on the parachute.  All games are designed to be played sitting or standing. Dates for the next few games are as follows:-

Swinford Comhaltas

Swinford Comhaltas Summer workshops

Scoil Cheoil Siamsa classes with Michael Davitt CCE, Swinford take place next week from Monday July 29th to August 2nd. Classes in Music, Singing and Conversational Irish will be held between 3pm and 6pm in Swinford NS. Our excellent tutors will teach banjo, bodhran, button accordion, concertina, fiddle, flute singing and tin whistle to all levels. Each class lasts an hour and the fee for the week is €25. Early enrolment and a seisiún in the Swinford 250 office on Market St, this Thursday 25th from 5pm to 7pm.

Swinford Comhaltas Pageant

Swinford Comhaltas ( Michael Davitt CCE ) and friends are delighted to present our fourth annual Pageant on Bank Holiday Monday, August 5th at 8.30pm. The show , in this special year of Swinford 250 and more is appropriately called “250 years a Growing” – “250 bliain ag fás” .

Two hundred and fifty years of life in Swinford and surrounding parishes will be celebrated with the best of music, song, dance, poetry, drama and narration in Swinford’s historic Cultural Centre. This will be a great night’s entertainment so be sure to be there!

 

Musical Theatre Summer Camp

If you or your children are interested in musical theatre then Swinford’s Railway Players have a treat in store for you. During the week beginning August 12th there will be a great opportunity for anyone who loves singing, dancing and acting as Flare Musical Theatre Company (Wicklow), in collaboration with the Railway Players, will run a Musical Theatre Camp/Workshop in Swinford NS.

There will be separate sessions for children from 1st to 6th class, young people of Secondary School age and, if there is enough interest, an evening workshop for older teens and adults. The week August 12th to 16th already promises to be a great success. Places are being allocated on a “first come first served basis” and quite a few of the places have already been taken. The junior section in particular is filling up rapidly. Times are from 10am to 2pm.

The Railway Players are delighted to work with Flare Musical Theatre Productions and are planning a musical production in late November/ early December.

This weeks draw was held in Gateway Hotel and the Eurospar Syndicate won €475.

Paddy Bollingbroke 30th Anniversary

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the death of Paddy Bollingbroke in Swinford, all round sportsman and four time All Ireland Handball Champion. To commemorate the event, there will be a gathering in Mellett’s Emporium at 8pm on Wednesday 28th August. It is proposed to have a souvenir booklet published.
