Warmer Homes Scheme

Get your home insulated for free. Clár ICH wishes to invite applications for the Warmer Homes Scheme. Criteria is set down by SEAI covering most of Mayo is 1:Owner occupied, non- local Authority Homes (proof is required) and 2: Constructed before 2006.

The owner must be in receipt of one of the following payments:

  • Fuel Allowance as part of the national fuel scheme
  • Job Seekers Allowance for over 6 months and with children under 7 years of age (letter from Dept only, receipt not acceptable)
  • Family Income Support

Swinford Camera Club Meetings Resume For 2016

Swinford camera club meetings resume for the new year on Wednesday the 20th of January. Why not take up photography as a new hobby for the new year? If you already have a camera, why not come along and learn how to improve your photography and get the most out of your camera.

Ecumenical Service

Mayo Roscommon Hospice Let Love Shine a Light Ecumenical Service takes place on Sunday January 17th at 3.45pm at the Rest and Care Centre Knock.

All those for whom lights are sponsored will be remembered and prayed for at the service.

Refreshments will be served after the service. All are welcome.

 

Stroke Support

Mayo Stroke Support Group meeting will be held on Thursday January 28th at 11.30-1 pm in the Newman Institute, Ballina.

The topic to be discussed will be “exercise post stroke and physiotherapy advice”.

Swinford & District Gardening Club

Michael Smyth of F.G. Phelan & Company Solicitors will give a talk on wills and inheritance tax at 8pm on Tuesday 26th January in the Gateway Hotel Swinford.

Men on the Move

The Swinford Men on the move participants resume their weekly sessions on Wednesday January 13th when they meet in the Cultural Centre at 7.30pm.

With the annual blitz of articles in magazines, tv, radio & newspapers all recommending various diets to reduce weight most of which don’t work but make easy money for their vendors the easiest and practically free method is taking exercise on a regular basis.

Each Wednesday at 7.30pm men (over 35 yrs) meet for over an hour of exercises followed by a 2-3 mile jog or brisk walk supervised by a qualified P.E instructor.

New members are always welcome irrespective of level of fitness or weight.

 

Christmas Tree Recycling

Mayo County Council are once again this year providing free Christmas tree recycling in Mayo. Christmas tree recycling in Swinford will be provided for at the council depot on Kilkelly road only.
In Swinford and surrounding areas, trees will be accepted up until Saturday the 16th of January 2016. Please ensure all decorations are removed from Christmas trees prior to recycling. Trees deposited at any other public locations will be treated as litter and Litter Pollution Fines will apply. For more locations in Mayo visit www.swinfordtidytowns.com

Healthcare Support Training

Healthcare Support Training (5M4339 QQI Level 5) will be held in Swinford in February 2016. This one day per week course is free to unemployed people but must be pre-booked by 20th January. Please contact Dolores McNicholas at 0877704251 or email dmcnicholas@mayonortheast.com

The Arthritis Swinford Walking Group

Walking is a great way to exercise and is proven to be the best way to manage arthritis pain.

Terrified Of Technology

Don’t be afraid and make it your new Years resolution to connect with Technology. Age Action runs beginner/refresher computer classes (ipad tablet, Smartphones also) for older people (55 years +)who have little or no computer experience or who are terrified of technology. Participants are taught either one to one or in very small groups by trained volunteer tutors.

Classes are run in the following venues in Mayo-Ballina, Castlebar, Claremorris, Foxford & Swinford.

50/50 Draw

This weeks draw for Swinford GAA 50/50 draw was held in Melletts on Tuesday 12th January and Ciaran Geraghty of meelick won €705.

Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks.

Next draw is in Moores on the 19th January. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.

Intermediate Management

At a recent meeting of the Executive of the Club, our new Intermediate management team of Pat O’Neill, Michael Devaney and Eamon Molloy were ratified for 2016. We wish them the best of luck for the coming season.

Membership

Club membership is now open for 2016, please contact a club officer.

The club will be hosting an underage registration session in the Gateway Hotel on Saturday 23rd January from 11am to 1pm.

The price of membership remains the same as previous years: Adult Player: €60, Non-Playing Membership €20, Under 18: €40, 2 children in family €70 and 3 or more children in family €100.
