Election Free Poster Town

 

Swinford Tidy Towns Committee extend thanks to all Mayo General Election candidates for complying with their requests for an election poster free town.

When the 2016 General Election was called, the committee contacted each candidate in Mayo requesting that Swinford town environs remain an election poster free zone.

Thanks to all, each of the candidates and all parties agreed to the request and were fully supportive of the initative.

The committee wish them all the best of luck in the election.

Crochet Classes

 

Crochet classes for beginners/improvers on Tuesday night from 7pm to 9pm.

Cost €75 (crochet hook, a ball of yarn and patterns supplied) for 5 week course.

Pilates Classes

If you would like to get fit after the winter pilates can help. Pilates improves flexibility, builds strenght and develops control and endurance in the entire body.

The class is suitable for beginners or improvers and is suitable for adults of all ages.

A 6 week course is starting on Friday February 26th at 10am (subject to enough people signing up for the course)

Indoor Soccer

The Friday night indoor soccer continues at 6pm every Friday night.

Ages 5 – 8 kick off at 6pm

Ages 9 – 11 kick off at 7pm

12 and older kick off at 7.45pm

Swinford Indoor Market

Swinford Indoor Country Market is on Saturday the 5th of March from 9.30-2pm at Swinford Cultural Centre (beside the new library).

We have a busy day planned for the whole family.

Our wide range of lovely stalls are there with a large variety of local produce on offer: veg, cakes, breads, preserves, plants, crafts, jewellery and much more will be available. We have some lovely home-made Cakes for Easter available.

The Railway cafe is also there to sit down and relax while enjoying the live music and having a lovely cup of tea with some homemade cake.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing you all there.

 

Mens Shed

Swinford Mens Shed is now established in the Swinford Community Centre.  Members would be most grateful if the public could donate any unwanted items such as timber, metal or electrical goods, tools, a small fridge, doors, small range etc.

Items can be left into the Community Centre or contact Aidan on 086 8114428.

 

Volunteer Opportunity

We are seeking volunteers to assisting people with a disability to make friendship connections in the community. Aras Attracta needs your help to try and overcome any barriers and make a real difference in our resident’s lives. Through befriending and mentoring, you can also help to promote social inclusion, making the community we live in a better place for everybody. Training and ongoing support is available to all who get involved in our volunteer service and to safeguard everybody in the process. We also welcome your own ideas how we can make it better.

We are looking for kind, responsible people with good communications skills and a willingness to share your skills, gifts or talents with our residents.

We are looking for open and honest people who want to make our community a better place for all in it. We are also looking for people who are willing to stand up for what is right and support their friend to make positive decisions about their life.

The benefits are many including being a more active citizen, helping those who are often forgotten, reducing social isolation and making your community better for everybody.

Walk/Run (Irish Kidney Association)

The Mattie Carden Memorial 10K and 5k run/walk will take place on Saturday March 5th at 12.30pm in Enniscrone.

Registration is open on www.runireland.com or www.coretiming.com and will take place in the Ocean Sands Hotel Enniscrone on Friday March 4th from 7 – 9 o’clock and Saturday March 5th from 10am – 12 noon.

Entry fee of €15 for the 10k and the 5k.

The event is chip timed and the AAI accredited. Trophy prizes in different categories.

Finisher medals for the first 150 in the 10k and the first 50 in the 5k.

St Patrick’s Day Parade 2016

Church gate collection will take place at Swinford Church on the weekend of February 27th and 28th.

All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Swinford St. Patricks Day Parade 2016

2016 sees Swinford celebrate its 65th St. Patricks day Parade since 1952. The 2016 theme is open.The Categories are Best Overall, Best Local Business, Best out of Town, Best School Band, most Humorous, Most topical, Most Original.

This is always a great family day out and we invite all of you to come out and enjoy the day in town. The parade will commence at 3pm. All participants are asked to have their entry forms returned to the St Patricks day box at the reception in the Gateway Hotel by Friday 11th at the latest. If you would like to discuss participating, please contact Cathal Kelly on 0876412785.

All participants are asked to be in the Tesco car park by 2.30pm and please co-operate with all stewards to ensure the safe and smooth running of the parade for all.

All local businesses, clubs, societies and organisations are asked to get involved in any way they can to make sure this special national day is a success. Whether it be by entering into the parade or decorating your premises, please do whatever you can.

The parade relies on all local finances to operate and all contributions are gratefully received. All businesses are asked to drop their contribution into the Box at the hotel reception.

50/50 Draw

Swinford-GAA-fifty-fifty-weekly-draw

This weeks draw for Swinford GAA 50/50 draw was held in Bolands on Tuesday 23 February and Michael Walsh of Kinaffe won €711. Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. Next draw is in Franks Place, Killasser on the 1st March. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.

Swinford v Donegal Gardai

On Saturday 27 February Swinford GAA will play a Donegal Gardai selection at O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny at 2-30m. This is our return trip after the Donegal Gardai appearance at the official opening of Robert McCallion Memorial Park.

After the game there will be a presentation at the Station House Hotel, Letterkenny.

Club membership is now open for 2016, please contact a club officer or visit our website.
The price of membership remains the same as previous years:

Adult Player: €60,
Non-Playing Membership €20,
Under 18: €40, 2 children in family €70 and 3 or more children in family €100.

The league schedule has been fixed for the underage teams. Our minor team are out on Sunday March 13th, our Under16 team on Sunday March 6th and our two U14 teams on Thursday 31st March. Full fixtures to come
