Swinford Notes February 17th 2016
Major Development for Swinford FC
Swinford FC who are based at James McEvaddy Park, Cloonaghboy, Swinford announce their intention to development a full size astro turf pitch. It is hoped it will be ready for use before Christmas. The purpose of the development is to provide playing and training facilities for all the boys & girl teams as well as the senior team.
It will be fully floodlit with permanent markings. It is hoped to offer the facility to other clubs such as soccer clubs and athletic clubs for training when the weather is not suitable for training on grass pitches.
Swinford FC see this development as the way forward and creating this astro turf they will entice new members to the club and put Swinford on the map as a town with progressive clubs with facilities as good as any in Mayo.
The club is fully aware that this development will be expensive but with their healthy financial position plus their ongoing ability to raise funds thanks to the people of Swinford and surrounding community they will succeed.
Swinford FC have just started their new 250 confined draw and are currently selling tickets. There are 2 draws every month for 12 months with prizes of €1000, €300 & €200 at each draw. The price of the tickets are €240 for the year which can be paid by cheque, cash or standing order of €20 per month for 12 months.
Tickets can be purchased from any member of the club or by contacting Philip Irwin (Sheepwalk Bar) or from Donal Benson. This is the 8th year running this draw and it has become one of the best draws in the county. It is the intention of the club to apply to the Sports Capital Programme for funding for this project and if successful they will be able to start work in the autumn.
As a club Swinford FC are indebted to the people of Swinford and the surrounding area. They also get support from Swinford people who are living abroad in all corners of the world and who never fail in supporting their home town.
