Calling all Bakers

The Great Irish Bake for Temple Street Children’s Hospital is taking place in Swinford on Friday April 15th.

Thanks to all of who supported to date. This event was a huge success last year and the organisers want to make it even better this year.

They would greatly appreciate any donations of cakes, buns, tarts etc.

Money raised will be used to buy pumps for the administration of pain relief to the young patients.

Now that the clocks have gone forward, Swinford Tidy Towns Wednesday evening clean ups will resume from Wednesday 13th April. If you would like to help out, we will be meeting every Wednesday at 7 at the No Name Club on Chapel St. Saturday mornings continue as usual at 11 am all year.

Swinford Court House Regeneration

A meeting to discuss the Regeneration of Swinford Courthouse will take place on Monday, April 11th at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel. Cake Sale

Thanks Swinford Mayo 24 Scouts is most grateful to everyone who donated and bought goods at their Easter Sunday Cake Sale.

Sincere thanks to Mr Pat Dunne, Principal of Scoil Muire agus Padraig for making the school kitchen available on the day.

The support received was much appreciated.

 

Table Quiz Thanks

Swinford Mayo 24 Scouts sincerely thanks everyone who supported their recent table quiz. To everyone who attended, made a donation or provided a spot prize gratitude is extended.Thanks to Cathal Kelly and the staff of the Gateway Hotel who organised and hosted the event. A fun filled night, with lots of laughter was enjoyed by all in attendance.

 

Walking Group

 

Swinford Active 55 walking group meets every Saturday at the Amenity Park at 10am.

You can walk, stroll at your own pace and everyone is welcome (suitable for people with arthritis or fibromyalgia).

It is free to join, so come along and meet new friends.

A cup of tea/coffee optional afterwards. Moving is the best medicine.

Swinford Mens Shed Present Cheque to Mayo Womens Support Services‏

Mary Kirrane on behalf of Mayo women support services, Breaffy Rd Castlebar, received a cheque for €223.80 from the contributions to the Christmas Crib situated here in the town of Swinford. The crib was erected by members of Swinford men’s shed with the support of Swinford Tidy Towns. We would like to thank all the people of Swinford for their contributions to the crib. 1916 Anniversary Commemoration

(Non Political Event)

Kilkelly Community Commemorative Group have organised an event to take place in memory of all those who played their part in laying down the foundation of the state.  This will take place  on Saturday 23rd April 2016 beginning with mass in St. Celsus church Kilkelly at 12.30pm followed by a reading of the proclamation and the raising of the tricolour flag at the memorial site at Cloonturk.

Refreshments will be served in Bonner’s lounge Kilkelly immediately after.

Swinford Drama Group

Swinford Drama Group would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our recent, and highly successful production of “The Farmer Wants a Wife”. at Meelick community centre. Great credit is due to all who worked on our production, and our thanks to them all. We look forward to seeing you all at our next show. Our sincere thanks again.

“Lovely Town called Swinford” is a poem/ballad written by Michael O’Grady. It is laminated with pictures from Swinford included and fits an A4 frame.

It can be purchased by sending €5 which includes postage, with your name and address to Michael O’Grady, Crafty Creations, Kilkelly, Co Mayo.

 

Fun Run/Walk

A 4k family run/walk will be held on Sunday April 17th at 2pm in aid of St Joseph’s National School, Meelick (non competitive, not timed).

Registration from 1pm at Meelick School €2 per person, max €10 per family.

Refreshments and raffle afterwards.

All welcome.

 

Summer Outing

A Summer Outing jointly organised by Swinford Social Services and Gardening Club will take place on June 27th, 28th & 29th. From a central location in Navan Town Centre you can become acquainted with the rich heritage of the Boyle Valley, travel to Drogheda, Malahide Castle and the National Botanic Gardens.

The three day programme promises to be diverse, interesting and hopefully enjoyable.

Cost per person sharing is €240. Single supplement also applies.

 

Support Workers Vacancies

Family Carers Ireland in Mayo are currently forming a panel of reliable & trustworthy Support Workers in the following areas;  Kilmovee, Newport, Charlestown, Ballina, Westport, Swinford, Achill and Ballinrobe. Applicants must be prepared to be flexible to suit the client’s needs.

Full FETAC Qualification in Healthcare essential. Successful applicants will be placed on a Relief Panel and deployed as work arises.

This weeks draw was held in Gateway Hotel and Lilly Mae Beisty of Carnacul, Swinford and Winchmore Hill, Swinford won €723. Thanks to all our supporters.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks.

Next draw is in Moores on the 12th April. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.
