Age Action-U3A

Age Action Ireland are bringing The University of The Third Age (U3A) to Swinford. The first in Mayo.
There is something for everyone at the university of the third age, a community led organisation providing opportunity for creativity, and exploration of new skills and interests. From Art to Zoology, and its free.

Where- Swinford Cultural Centre (Upstairs Meeting Room)
When- Friday April 27th
Time- 2pm.

Sam O’Brien from Age Action Dublin will be the guest speaker, and he will answer all your questions about this wonderful opportunity for Swinford.

Healthcare Support Training

Mayo North East is organising a free Healthcare Support Training Course in Swinford for unemployed people or people in part-time employment. On successful completion of the course learners will have gained a Healthcare Support QQI Level 5 Major award. Skillnet eligibility criteria will apply and Garda Vetting must be successfully completed. Training will commence one day per week in June 2018 and conclude in December 2018. This training is funded under The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme.

Saturday Evening Mass Choir

The Saturday evening choir is looking for new members. Adults or teenagers with an interest in singing or playing music are invited to join the choir. Call up to the gallery any Saturday evening 6.30pm or contact Marie on 0872805222.

Swinford Community Games

The Swinford community games will take place in Swinford Amenity Park on May Bank holiday Monday, May 7th at 1pm.
Entry fee €5 total per family, includes entry for all events.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. All children living in the Swinford area, from preschool to under 16,are eligible to enter.

Barnacogue N.S Cash for Clobber

Barnacogue N.S. will be organizing a number of fundraising initiatives over the coming months, to raise much needed funds towards the development of a safe car park & set-down area for the school.

A ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection takes place on Friday 18th May. We would welcome any of your unwanted, used clothes, bags, belts, shoes, household textiles, tea towels, cushion covers, curtains & bed linen (no duvets or pillows).

You can drop your clobber (in bags) into the school between 9.30am & 3.00pm, Monday to Friday before 18th May.

What a great opportunity to clear out your wardrobes while helping the school!
Your support is much appreciated!

Swinford & District Gardening Club

Swinford Gardening Club will hold a trip to Galway on Saturday May 5th 2018.
The bus leaves Swinford at 8am Sharp.
Breakfast will be served in The Trappers Inn, Galway followed by a guided tour of St. Brigid’s Garden, Roscahill and the Celtic Crystal factory and Visitors Centre.
There will be some time for shopping at Terryland Shopping centre.
Finally there will be a visit to McGaugh’s Gardening Complex before leaving Galway, Followed by dinner on the return journey home.
The cost is €48 per person.
Early booking is advised.
There is a deposit of €20, which secures your place.

Swinford Boxing Club

Are you aged 50+? Want to get, or keep Fit whilst having Fun and learning how to Manage your Weight? Then we’ve got something to tell you…
Swinford Boxing Club is delighted to offer the first of many Training Programs specifically tailored to Groups in our community. In association with the Irish Athletic Boxing Association and the HSE, we present
“Fighting Fit”…

a FREE 8 week programme as part of our Healthy Boxing Bodies project.

Fighting Fit is a fun based boxing session for both WOMEN and MEN aged 50+. The sessions are based on fundamental body movements and manageable exercise for this specific group. This program helps with a changing body composition, aiding mobility, and helping you to keep muscle mass resulting in good body posture throughout life. It is a program that will help manage weight gains encountered as metabolism slows.

The Program will run initially on Monday evenings for a 2 month period beginning in May. In association with the HSE, the program will also include: a Health Risk Assessment, Nutritional Advice and a Health Seminar for all participants.

Killasser Community Centre

KCC 50/50 draw took place on Easter Sunday night in Franks Place, March winner was Brendan Tansey who won €600 with Francis Hegarty and Yvonne Moore winning €20 spot prize.

Killasser Folk Group/Gospel Choir

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This weeks draw was held in Melletts and Mick and Eileen of Lislackagh won €523. The winning envelope was sold in Liam Campbells.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through
www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks.
