Swinford Notes 9th December 2015
Mayo County Council are providing a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Swinford in December. The Household Hazardous waste collection point will be located at the PND business Park, Ballina road Swinford on Saturday the 12th of December 2015. The collection point will be open from 10am to 2pm on the day.
This will be a great opportunity to clear out those cupboards of all those old medicines and dispose of them in a safe manner. Its also a great way to get rid of all those paint tins with a bit of paint in them, safely.
The following items of household Hazardous Waste will be accepted:
- Paint, paint cans and related materials,
- Ink Cartridges,
- Veterinary Medicines (No Sharps),
- Glues &Adhesives,
- Pesticides, Herbicides and Insecticides,
- Aerosol cans,
- Household acids and bases, Detergents,
- Waste Oil disposal and Oil Filters,
- Waste Cooking Oil,
- Old Medicines (No Sharps) and Cosmetics.
This service is provided free of charge to the domestic sector for household hazardous waste collection. Only items listed above will be accepted. No unlabellled items will be accepted.

Christmas Floral Demonstration Charity this Evening 9th December
Swinford & District Gardening Club are holding a Christmas Floral Demonstration by Gail of Eden’s Flowers Kiltimagh in aid of Guide dogs for the blind.
It will take place tonight at 8pm the 9th of December in the Gateway Hotel.
Tickets are €10. All arrangements will be raffled on the night and in addition there will be other fabulous raffle prizes.
Please support this worthy cause and at the same time have a most enjoyable night.
Three Tenors Concert
A concert by the Three Tenors of religious songs, seasonal favourites and other music will take place in the Swinford Church on Sunday, December 13th at 8pm.
The concert will also feature the choir of Scoil Muire agus Padraig and violist Maria Mason.
Tickets are €25 and are available from Spain’s, Mellets Newsagents and the Gateway Hotel.

Christmas Carol service
The annual Christmas Carol Service will take place in Callow Church on this Friday December 11th at 7.30pm.
All are welcome to join in this special celebration of the Christmas story through music and song.
Christmas Craft Fair & Raffle
Christmas Lights 2015
A church gate collection to help defray the costs of this years Christmas lights will be taken up on the weekend of Saturday December 12th and Sunday 13th of December.
All donations greatly appreciated.
Kevin Hughes Coolegrane, Foxford will once again be erecting his most colourful display of Christmas lights at his home. The Coolegrane lights are known to be one of the largest and most magnificient colourful display of Christmas lights in the whole of Ireland.
As usual a donation box will be placed at the gateway and this year Kevin has decided to donate all proceeds collected this year to the Multiple Sclerosis Fund.
The lights will be switched on at 7pm this Friday December 11th by Fr Padraig Costello P.P Foxford.

A manual handling training course will be held in Killasser Community Centre, Swinford on Thursday 17th December from 12 noon to 3pm.
The course is free to unemployed people but must be pre-booked.
