Swinford 250 and More

Due to unprecedented demand Swinford 250 committee has postponed the burial of the Swinford 250 time capsule. This will allow more people to participate in this historic event. Final drop off of envelopes is Friday, January 10th at 5.pm. The burial will be at the Cultural Centre on Sunday the 12th of January at 6.30pm accompanied by the release of 25 lanterns. Please like and share this. We need to connect with as many people as possible. #swinford250 thanks for all your support. Have a very happy and healthy new year to all our Swinford community near and far.

 

Befriending Programme.

Mayo North East are looking for volunteers to befriend 3 Syrian families in Swinford. The volunteers will assist the families in home management and social activities. Two people will visit the families for 1-2 hours a week at a time that suits the families. Volunteers will be required to take part in an interview, Garda vetting and 2 training sessions. Volunteers must be over 18.

Jiving Juniors Dance Classes

Jiving Juniors classes every Tuesday in The Cultural Centre, Swinford from 4pm-5pm.

Annual Mass

Join us for the first Annual Mass for deceased staff and pupils of Banada Abbey, St Attracta’s and the Marist Convent Schools on Saturday 18 January 2020 at 8.30pm in Tourlestrane Church. Afterwards all are invited to Benada Abbey Hall for Tea and Coffee which will allow you to intermingle with old classmates and former pupils. Michael Davitt CCE (Swinford Comhaltas) music, singing, dancing and comhrá gaeilge classes continue every Saturday in Swinford NS from 12 pm. New pupils are always welcome. This can be paid at Ray Lambes, at the school on Saturday or to any branch committee member. We are very grateful for all the local support we get.

Swinford GAA

This weeks draw was held in Gateway Hotel and Marie Deacy of Bohola won €478. The winning envelope was sold in O’Donnell’s Pharmacy.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks.

2 Yogalates Classes Run Every Monday In The Cultural Centre Swinford.
First at 1pm Lunchtime Yogalates, this is a 45 minute Class. The second is Yogalates By Candlelight at 7pm and runs for 1 Hour. Both Classes are For Beginners so join anytime and Classes are Pay As You Go. We start with Yoga Poses so you can start To Heal and Breathe Then Pilates For Strengthening Your Core, then we move on To Stretching To Renew Your Muscles and Help with Posture and Finish with Relaxation. Please Bring your own Mat, Blanket and Cushion. This is Good For Chronic Conditions, Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, High Blood Pressure & Fatigue To name a few. Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters are a social club which meet the second Thursday of each month in The Cultural Centre, Swinford from 10.30am to 12.30pm. We have been asked to have the games more often and are planning to try this in the early part of 2020. (We will advertise when dates/venues available) We are also available to come to your venue and do a demonstration for your group. (please ring to discuss)
The games are aimed at over 55’s include Boccia, Skittles, bucket ball Parachute and Horse racing games and many more. Groups/individuals are most welcome and games are designed to be played sitting or standing, just come along.

Craobh Eo Mayo Woodturners

Swinford Mock Wedding

Swinford Mock Wedding in aid of Mayo Down Syndrome West Regional Centre and Playground in Swinford is on Saturday 14th March in the Cultural Centre and Gateway Hotel. The marriage is between Siobhan Campbell and Douglas Kelly.
Tickets are available from The Whitehouse Bar and Gateway Hotel at €50 each and include a 4 course meal and music from the Heebie Jeebies Band.

Railway Players AGM

The AGM of the Railway Players will be held this Tuesday 14th January at 9pm in Boland’s of Bridge Street, Swinford. The Railway Players is a Variety and Drama group which has been very active and involved in community events since being formed in November 2018. We thank everyone who supported us at our various events during the year and look forward to many more successful events in 2020. We are always delighted to welcome new members/friends to our meetings and we look forward to seeing you there.
