Killasser Group Water Scheme – Urgent Notice

An urgent meeting of shareholders of Killasser group water scheme will be held in Killasser Community Centre tonight (Wednesday 5th November) at 8pm. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the difficult financial constraints facing the scheme and to agree a funding scheme to allow the scheme to remain a viable service going forward.

This is an extremely important meeting and a representative from each household is strongly urged to attend.

Swinford Golf Club AGM

The annual general meetings of the Swinford Golf Club will be held on the following dates -:

Ladies – Sunday 9th November at 5pm
Mens – Friday 21st November at 8pm
Management – Wednesday 26th November at 8pm

Swinford Golf Club Buffet Dance

Tickets are now on sale for the Swinford Golf Club Buffet Dance which will be held in the Gateway Hotel on Saturday 29th November at 8pm. The ‘Golfer Of The Year’ awards will be presented on the night along with celebrating the Men’s Cecil Ewing team and the Ladies Minor team who both reached the Connacht finals this year. Music will be provided by Tempo Country and there will be lots of spot prizes and a monster raffle on the night. Tickets cost €25 each.

Swinford Christmas Festival

Swinford Christmas Festival will be held from Friday 28th November to Sunday 7th December. Lots of events have already been planned and all local clubs/societies are being asked to get involved in any way that they can.

Outdoor Christmas Crib

There are plans underway to construct a large outdoor Christmas Crib on Main Street, Swinford. This will be a prominent feature in the town, which will attract locals and visitors alike. A fundraising event for this project will be held in the near future.

Scoil Muire agus Padraig Musical

Scoil Muire agus Padraig will be presenting their musical ‘Back to the 80’s’ on Tuesday 2nd December and Wednesday 3rd December – Matinees performances – and nightly on Thursday 4th, Friday 5th, and Saturday 6th December. Everybody is welcome to attend for what promises to be a very entertaining show.

Swinford GAA Handball Club AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Swinford GAA Handball Club will take place in The White House, Swinford on Friday 7th November at 9pm.

GAA National Club Draw

The Croke Park GAA have once again organised a National Club Draw along the same lines as the one held earlier this year. The draw is run by Croke Park who provide all the prizes while the Club retains all proceeds from the ticket sales. Tickets are €10 and are available from all Swinford GAA club officers. Detailed information of the prizes, which have been increased from the previous draw, can be found here. The club would like to thank everybody for helping them raise €8,000 in the draw last Spring.

Prayer Service

A prayer service for the dead will take place in Swinford Church on Friday 7th November at 7:30pm and in Killasser Church on Friday 28th November at 8pm.

Route Selection Public Consultation

The emerging preferred route corridor for the following routes will be displayed in the Cultural Centre, Swinford on Wednesday 19th November from 2pm to 8pm.

• N5 between Castlebar and Bohola,
• N58 between Foxford and the N5 and,
• N26 between Mount Falcon and Swinford

Staff from Mayo County Council (Mayo National Roads Design Office) and Roughan & O’Donovan AECOM Consulting Engineers will be available to answer questions at the venue. Mayo County Council invite your comments in relation to the emerging preferred route corridors which will be finalised following a review of the information gathered at this Public Consultation, together with additional studies on the emerging preferred routes, if required.

The preferred routes will also be displayed at venues in Straide, Foxford and Ballina. Locations and times for the other venues can be found here along with further information on this public consultation.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1160 and was won by Laura Basquil.

The next draw will take place in Moore’s, Swinford on Tuesday 11th November.

Swinford GAA Club will be presenting Swinford National School with a cheque for €580 to support Gaelic games in the school. In the future the club will be doing similar initiatives for the other schools in the Swinford area.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses and you can now play online. Your continued support is greatly appreciated and who knows YOU may be the lucky winner next week.
