Meelick Group Water Scheme AGM

The annual general meeting for the Midfield Group Water Scheme will take place on Friday 6th March at 9pm in Julian’s Lounge, Midfield.

Swinford Camera Club hold meetings every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 8 pm in the National School, Swinford. See Swinford.ie for more details

The next meeting of Swinford Camera Club is 8pm tonight (Wednesday 4th March 2015) in Swinford National School.

If you have an interest in photography why not come along, you will be most welcome.

Meetings are held every 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Swinford Community Indoor Market

This month’s Indoor Market will take place on Saturday 7th March from 9:30am to 1pm in the Cultural Centre.

On offer will be a wide variety of produce from scrumptious home baking, artisan breads, local honey, jams, preserves, chutneys, fresh fruit & veg, both fresh flower and silk flower arrangements, crafts, sowing, quilting, crochet, knitting, herbs, plants, flowers, spring bulbs and plants, home spun wool, soaps, jewellery of all types, greeting cards, cheeses and olives and much much more..

The Railway Cafe always a very popular spot will be serving teas, coffees and a selection of homemade foods to eat in or take away.

Please come along and support your local community market.

Community Clubs and Groups Open Day

As mentioned in our featured article here, Swinford.ie will be hosting all the clubs and groups of Swinford in a wonderful and informative afternoon from 2pm – 5pm in the Gateway Hotel on Saturday 7th March.

Make-A- Wish Open Evening

The Make-A-Wish Children’s Charity will be holding an open evening in the Gateway Hotel on Saturday 7th March from 5pm to 7pm.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

This year will see the 64th St. Patrick’s Day Parade take place in Swinford on Tuesday 17th March at 3pm.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Our History Our Heritage”

St. Patrick’s Day is always a fun day out for all the family and it is sincerely hoped that everyone will come out on the day to enjoy themselves.

Social Services Summer Outing

Social Services Summer Outing to County Clare will take place on June 29th, 30th & July 1st 2015. The group will be staying in The Old Ground Hotel, Ennis and will be visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Craggaunowen, Lisdoonvarna Smokehouse, Burren Centre & Kilfenora. There will also be an evening meal in the Barn Kitchen at Bunratty Folkpark. Total cost of the trip is €240.

Anyone wishing to travel is asked to pay a deposit of €50 using one of the following methods: by posting a cheque to treasurer Mary Gallagher, Moyhaven, Cloongullane, Swinford; by leaving your name and deposit with a committee member in Moore’s Shop after 12 o’clock mass on Sunday 15th or 22nd March; or by contacting Mary Gallagher on 087 8147463 or Susie Moore on 087 7677687

All deposits must be paid by Sunday 22nd March.
Seats on a first come first served basis.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1003 and was won by Kevin Nestor of Market Street.

The next draw will be held in Frank’s Place, Killasser at 9pm on Tuesday 10th March.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses and you can also play online. Starting from this week you will be able to buy 3 envelopes for €5. Please put all the money in 1 envelope and the place of purchase will staple the 3 envelopes together.

The club would like to thank all our sellers of tickets, the players for going out every weekend selling tickets and everyone in the community who purchased envelopes. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Swinford Comhaltas Quiz Night

The Mayo County Fleadh Cheoil will be hosted in Swinford for the 3rd year in a row this May. The local Comhaltas branch – Michael Davitt CCE are holding a Table Quiz in the Gateway Hotel on Friday 13th March at 9:30pm to help with the costs. This is always a fun night with good prizes and refreshments provided.

Please come along and enjoy a great start to a long St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Humbert Challenge Triathlon

Swinford Tri Sports are again hosting the Humbert Challenge Triathlon and this year’s event will take place on Sunday 28th June.

The Humbert Challenge Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon which involves a 1500m swim in the beautiful Callow Lake, a 44k cycle and a 10k run. Last years event not only attracted a great level of local participation but also competitors from all over the country and beyond.

The next Seisiún na nÓg in Swinford is on Sunday 22nd March. Led as usual by Rob it will be hosted by Rita and Shane in Campbell’s White House.
