2016 Tesco Swinford Clean Street League Begins

Street league event header

The 2016 Tesco Swinford Clean Street League begins this month. Judging will take place over the months of July, August and September this year. Again this year, as in previous years, the Clean Street League competition will be open to two categories, Streets and Estates. The four categories that the streets and Estates will be judged on are as follows: Litter Control, Planting/Flowers, Presentation & Overall Impression.

Swinford Tidy Towns would once again like to thank Tesco Swinford for their continued sponsorship of the Tesco Swinford Clean Street League. This is now the 5th year of the competition which began in 2012. In that first year of the competition it was confined to all the streets in the town. In 2013 we expanded the competition to include all the estates as well. The Tesco Swinford clean street league competition now includes all 16 streets in the town, including all 19 estates!

We would also like to thank our independent Adjudicators for all their time and hard work they put into judging the competition. It really is time consuming visiting and judging all 16 streets & 19 estates every month. The competition between each street and estate has greatly intensified every year which also makes the Adjudicators job all the more difficult! As soon as the July report is in from our Adjudicators at the end of the month, we will post the results on our website www.swinfordtidytowns.com and on our Twitter & Facebook pages. Our Awards Ceremony will be held in the Gateway Hotel at the end of September.

Mayo Manchester join forces with Siamsa Sraide in Swinford

Mayo Manchester Tradfest are once again joining forces with the annual Siamsa Sraide Street Festival in Swinford, in County Mayo.

The group of musicians, singers and dancers will once again descend on the market town on Tuesday 2 August as part of the groups whistle top tour of North Mayo. The award winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band will lead a parade down the main street before a short concert by Joe Keegan from the hit BBC TV series ‘The Voice’. Some of the Dancers from the Keegan Academy of Irish Dance will also be appearing at the free concert which is on from 2.30pm-3.30pm.

Brid O’Connell the founder and current secretary of the Siamsa Sraide festival committee pictured here with the group at last year’s festival commented, “We are thrilled to bring Mayo Manchester back once again after last years packed out concert with the Copper Ceili band.”

Tony Hennigan the director of Mayo Manchester added “We are delighted to have joined forces with Siamsa Sraide once again as part of the Mayo Manchester Tradfest. We got a great reception at last year’s Street Festival and we were delighted to be invited back. This is one of the ten main events in our week long celebration of traditional Irish, Music, Song and Dance which features performers from Mayo and Manchester. As well as the main events the festival has over sixty fringe events featuring over 500 performers and is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors. I hope that the local musicians and dancers will join us again this year, the area has a fantastic reputation for the standard of musicians, singers and dancers based in the area and we love working with them.”

If any performers would like to be involved in the free concert they should email mayomanchester@gmail.com
