May Altar

The month of May has always been devoted to Our Lady. For years people have erected a May Altar comprising of a statue of Our Lady and lots of flowers.

In keeping with this tradition a May Altar will be erected at Julian’s crossroads, Midfield on Thursday 30th April at 7:30pm. One of our priests will attend to bless the altar and to recite the rosary. Midfield Choir will also be in attendance.

Everyone is welcomed to come along and feel free to bring flowers for the altar. Chairs will be available where necessary.

Swinford Hospice Shop Wedding Fair

Swinford Hospice Shop is having its 1st ever Wedding Fair in the shop premises on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May from 12noon to 6pm on both days.

Come along and view beautiful wedding dresses, ranging from vintage to unique once off designs, both new and pre loved at very affordable prices. See a fine selection of bridesmaids, flower girl, mother of the bride plus groom and debs dresses. There is also a great selection of hats, fascinators, headpieces and a full range of accessorises available.

Raffle for wedding vouchers and refreshments served.

Swinford Community Indoor Market

Saturday 2nd May sees the return of the Swinford Indoor Market. It’s location as always, is in the lovely historic Cultural Centre on Station Road (beside the library) and the market will be open from 9:30am to 2:00pm.

They have a new Facebook page ‘Swinford Indoor County Market’ and their first competition is for two free lunches at “The Railway Cafe” if you like and share. More competitions will be coming up every month so start following!

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €821 and was won by Phil Rowley of Killasser.

The next draw will take place in Padraic Horkan’s on Tuesday 5th May.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Swinford Community Games

Swinford Community Games will take place in the Amenity Park on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May starting at 2pm. All children under 16 years and living in the Swinford area are encouraged to come along and take part.

A sincere thank you to all who supported the recent church gate collection. The money raised goes towards prizes, affiliation costs and competitor’s entry fees to county and All-Ireland competitions.

A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Tesco Cake Sale in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital on Friday 17th April. To everyone who baked, bought cakes & raffle tickets and helped in any way, the organisers really appreciate your support.

Thanks to the generosity of you all a total of €650 was raised for this great cause.

The winner of the beautiful cake, kindly donated by Philomena Mullin Noyes was Julie Ryan.

Swinford National School Enrolment 2015

Please ensure that completed enrolment forms for the school year 2015/16 are returned to Swinford National School by 22nd May.

Enrolment forms are available from the school or can be downloaded directly from the Swinford N.S website.

Scout Leaders Required

Swinford Mayo 24 Scouts is currently looking to recruit new leaders for September 2015. If you are able to give an hour per week and you are interested in learning new skills along with sharing your own skills and life experiences, then Swinford Scouts are looking to hear from you.

East Mayo Anglers Retirement Function

East Mayo Anglers invite all members, both past and present to mark the recent retirement of their water keeper Martin Howley. Martin has retired after serving East Mayo Anglers for nearly 18 years.

The function will be held in the Gateway Hotel on Friday 8th May at 9pm.

Swinford Men’s Shed

Swinford Men’s Shed will be meeting at 8pm on Thursday 14th May at a venue to be notified. The members will be delighted to receive any idle work tools that you may have lying about. Please contact Swinford Men’s Shed on 086 1666620 if you would like to donate any such items.

The committee is working hard on sourcing a venue for the Men’s Shed to call home and it is hoped progress will be made on this in the coming weeks.

The committee and members would like to thank John Fallon of Claremorris Men’s Shed who gave a talk at the meeting on Thursday 16th April and enlightened us all with his experience.

Swinford Agricultural Show

The Swinford Agricultural Show 2015 will be held on Saturday 15th August.

The committee sincerely thank the 2014 financial sponsors for their generosity without which the show would not be possible. They also thank the many other supporters who provide them with the venue for the show (Pat Kelly of Swinford Motors, Eddie O’Hara, Kieran Rowley, Michael O’Donnell and Brian McNulty) and the Gateway Hotel.
