Support Workers Vacancies

Family Carers Ireland in Mayo are currently forming a panel of reliable & trustworthy Support Workers in the following areas; Kiltimagh, Charlestown, Tourmakeady,  Kilmovee, Newport, Charlestown, Ballina, Westport, Swinford, Achill and Ballinrobe. Applicants must be prepared to be flexible to suit the client’s needs. Full FETAC Qualification in Healthcare essential.

Successful applicants will be placed on a Relief Panel and deployed as work arises. All candidates if successful will be expected to have a full clean driving licence, supply two written references and be prepared to complete a Garda vetting form.

Census 2016

Census 2016 takes place on Sunday the 24th April. The Census includes a dedicated section, Q22, all about family care. Help us raise awareness of Q22 by forwarding this message to a family carer you know. Our Carers Count Campaign has clear advice on how to fill out Q22 properly so that we can gain an accurate measure of the number of carers in Ireland and the number of hours spent caring.

Horticulture Training

Horticulture training (QQI Level 3) will be held in Swinford on Tuesday 10th May and will run each Tuesday for five weeks. 10.00am to 4.00pm. The course is free to unemployed and part-time employed people. The purpose of the course is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skills and competence to plant, grow and maintain a range of vegetables.

Music Lessons

Guitar and Keyboard/Piano (inc.RIAM) lessons are being held near Swinford. These are 1 to 1 lessons with a qualified and experienced music teacher. First introductory lesson is free.

Great Irish Bake

Tesco Swinford sincerely thank everyone who helped make their cake sale in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital such a huge success. Thanks to all who baked, bought or sold.

The total raised for the event was an incrediable €1,545.

Thanks also to Robin Newtown and his beautiful dog & cart who came along to give trips around the car park for the children which added to the fun on the day.

 

Walking Group

Swinford Active 55 walking group meets every Saturday at the Amenity Park at 10am.

You can walk, stroll at your own pace and everyone is welcome (suitable for people with arthritis or fibromyalgia).

It is free to join, so come along and meet new friends.

A cup of tea/coffee optional afterwards. Moving is the best medicine.

Cyclists Needed

Family Carers Ireland Mayo Branch, are looking for cyclists to take part in Giro De Baile on the 31st July 2016.

Hospice seek marathon participants

Mayo Roscommon Hospice is appealing for walkers/joggers to participate in the Western People West of Ireland Mini Marathon in Castlebar on Sunday May 1st or the VHI Womens Mini Marathon Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday , June 6th on their behalf.

The money raised is necessary to maintain local palliative care services.

“Lovely Town called Swinford” is a poem/ballad written by Michael O’Grady. It is laminated with pictures from Swinford included and fits an A4 frame.

It can be purchased by sending €5 which includes postage, with your name and address to Michael O’Grady, Crafty Creations, Kilkelly, Co Mayo.

Stroke Support

The next Mayo Stroke Support Group meeting will be held on Thursday April 28th from 11.30am – 1pm in the Tennis Club Castlebar. The topic for discussion is “Entitlements and driving post stroke”.

Swinford Indoor Country Market

Swinford Indoor Country Market is on Saturday the 7th of May from 9.30-2pm at Swinford Cultural Centre (beside the new library).

As always we have a busy day planned for the whole family.

Our wide range of lovely stalls are there with a large variety of local produce on offer: veg, cakes, breads, preserves, plants, crafts, jewellery and much more will be available.

A work shop will be running for the kids and we’re supporting the fund for an ISPCA inspector for Mayo. Live music will be playing and you can enjoy it while having a break at The Railway Cafe.

Siamsa Seipeil 2016

Siamsa Seipeil 2016 are very happy to announce that Our Lady Help of Christians Church will host from Aclare,County Sligo Tommy Fleming.
Tommy has toured both home and worldwide for the past 20 years to packed audiences and started his career off in Swinford where he spent summers busking at Siamsa Sraide and playing in many of the pubs as he set out on the road to success.
In 2004 he played the Basilica in Knock to over 5000 people, a show that has been seen by many millions worldwide on television and through DVD sales.
Following in the footsteps of Frankie Gavin, Sharon Shannon, Paul Brady and Phil Coulter Tommy will play Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Friday 29th July for what should be a fantastic night of entertainment. Tommy and his band will play songs from his many albums spanning his career in a night that is not to be missed.
