Swinford Athletic Club Harvest Series

Swinford Athletic Club Harvest Series is sponsored by O’Connell’s Pharmacy and will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday 26th August – Meelick 5km
Wednesday 2nd September – Cloontia 5km
Wednesday 9th September – Straide 5km
Wednesday 16th September – Foxford 5km

All runs start at 7pm. Registration is from 6:45pm at the various community centres. Entry Fee is €2 Members / Kids and €5 for Non Members.

Swinford Golf Club Presidents Prize

On Saturday 29th August, Swinford Golf Club members, both ladies and men will play for the Presidents Prize, presented by Esther Munnelly.

Golfers will be in action from 7am until late in the evening in search of one of the two major awards during the year. After the 18 hole stroke competition, the presentation of prizes will take place in the clubhouse when an expected full house will honour the president.

All competitors must have their names in to the Swinford Golf Club by Thursday 27th August in time for the draw at 8pm.

Mayo North East Training Courses

Mayo North East has organised the following training courses which will be held in Swinford:

Hand Held Pesticide Application Training

Hand Held (Knapsack) Pesticide Application Training will be held in Swinford on Thursday 27th August and Thursday 3rd September from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

This course is aimed at unemployed people aged between 18 and 24 years. On successful completion of the course learners will have gained the knowledge and skills to be able to work in a variety of horticultural and agricultural settings.

Safe Pass Training

Any person who engages in construction activities are bound by law to hold a valid Safe Pass card. Safe Pass Training will take place in the Cultural Centre, Swinford on Saturday 29th August from 8am to 5:15pm.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €814 and was won by Elaine Henry Dempsey of Cloonfinaun, Swinford.

The next Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw will take place in Moore’s on Tuesday 1st September.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses at €2 each or 3 for €5. You can also get your tickets online through the Swinford GAA store where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10, 20, or 52 weeks.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated and who knows next week you could be the lucky winner!

Butterfly Babes

Barnacogue National School are thrilled to be hosting Butterfly Babes Music for six weeks beginning on Wednesday 9th September. Butterfly Babes with Angel is a unique and wonderful musical education group for all young babes from birth to four years of age. This inspiring program is designed to awaken your child’s lifelong love for music.

Come and join in the fun and help your child develop confidence, motor skills, vocabulary and their all important bond with you!

You will be tapping your feet and singing along with your baby or child to the music. The program introduces many classical pieces to original lyrics from the butterfly babes’ creators. You are sure to be singing these catchy melodies to your children for years to come!

Angel will be doing a free demo class in the school hall on Thursday 27th August at 11am for those of you interested.

Swinford Foroige Club

Swinford Foroige Club will resume meetings on Friday 11th September.

Enrolment will be held from 7-9pm on Friday 28th August in the Swinford Cultural Centre, with membership forms to be filled in on the night by a parent or guardian.

The club is only open at present to secondary school pupils and a fee of €20 is payable on the night for insurance. Parents/Guardians are also required to take turns with supervision at least four times in the year.

Midfield National School 50th Anniversary

The 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the opening of Midfield National School takes place on Saturday 29th August. This is a historical occasion for the whole community to celebrate. All are welcome – you do not have to be a past pupil.

Mass will be held at 2pm in Midfield Church with Bishop Kelly. There will be a gathering in Midfield N.S from 3pm – 6pm to look at photos, chat to friends, with plenty of refreshments, entertainment and fun activities for children provided. At 7:30pm doors open in Julian’s for buffet, music, dancing, D.J, and raffle on the night for signed Mayo Jersey plus many more wonderful prizes.

St. Michael’s National School Centenary Celebrations

St. Michael’s National School, Kinaffe, celebrates its centenary this year.

Giggles Drama School

Giggles Drama School classes start back in the Swinford Cultural Centre on Wednesday 9th September.

Class times are:
from 5 to 6pm for ages 5 and 6,
from 6 to 7pm for ages 7 to 9,
from 7 to 8pm for ages 10 to 12,
and from 8 to 9pm for Teenagers.

Swinford Agricultural Show

The 27th Swinford Agricultural Show held on Saturday 15th August in Heeran’s Farm was the most successful ever. A record number from throughout the country ensured stiff competition with the judges having a tough time to select winners. A large number of trade stands reported doing good business during the day which was dry and sunny.

Local organisations including Swinford Boxing Club, Karate Club and Swinford Drama Group as well as Everyday Solution and the Buille Beo band with Sean Nós Dancer Tommy Stenson entertained the large crowd throughout the day.

The Swinford Show Society gratefully acknowledges the support of the sponsors and the business community of Swinford, locally and nationally.

The Peddlers Cycle Club would like to thank all the people who took part in their cycle run during the recent Siamsa Sraide Festival with special thanks to the Gardaí, Civil Defence, Swinford Motors and the Festival Committee.

All the money raised went to the Youth Memorial Garden.
