“Day for Carers”

To launch National Carers Week  here in the West, Family Carers Ireland are organising a ‘Day for Carers’ on the 13th June I the Harlequin Plaza, Castlebar from 11-4pm. Organisations attending, Bio Energy by Maureen Murphy, Eclipse Hair Salon, Indian Head Massage by Mihoko, Reflexology by Maura Walshe, Staunton’s Pharmacy, Community Action on Dementia, Mayo, Reiki by Angela Chambers, The Wellness Centre, Westport, The Green Room, Swinford & Make up with Megan and Croí.

Also on the day there will be Questions & Answers with our Social Policy Manager; Clare Duffy and Laughter Yoga with Fiona Hoban.

Free admission.

All Carers Welcome! No need to book. Tea, Coffee and Refreshments available on the day.

Swinford Tidy Towns Clean Up

The National Tidy Towns competition judging begins on the 11th of June. We will be continuing our Wednesday evening clean ups, this week we will be concentrating on Kiltimagh Rd and Park Rd.

The following week we will concentrate on Ballina Rd and Dublin Rd. We will be clearing weeds/silt etc along all the kerbs. All help welcome.

Topaz Cash For Clubs

The Topaz Cash for Clubs scheme is running again from May 16th to August 7th. Swinford GAA were very successful in the draw in 2015.

Please collect your tokens when you purchase fuel at any Topaz station.

The club number is 2853.

 

Cycle

Swinford Cruisers have organised a leisurely cycle every Monday & Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm. The meeting point will be in the car park at the District Hospital.

A longer cycle will be held every Saturday morning at 10.30am.

 

Charity Cycle

Hop on – Hop off your bike in aid of Rock Rose House Cancer Support, Castlebar in association with Swinford Cruisers.

Cycle from Swinford to Donegal on June 24th & 25th.

Baby Sensory Classes

Baby sensory classes commencing on Friday June 3rd in Killasser Community Centre at 12 noon. Five classes costs €40 – first class free.

Computer/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone training for the over 55’s

Computer/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone training for the over 55’s. If you, or someone you know needs help or could benefit from 1:1 tuition, then this is for you. The aim of the “Getting Started” programme is to introduce older people to the basics of internet and email.

 

Age Action Ireland runs 4-week courses (2 hours per week) in the Swinford Library. You will receive individual tuition so you can go at your own pace. Classes are geared for either absolute beginners or those who have some knowledge and want to do a refresher/improver class. Classes are free of charge!

The last class before the summer break is as follows:

Social Dancing

Social Dancing commencing in the Gateway Hotel on Friday June 17th with music by Carmel McLoughlin and July 1st, Dermot McConnell. Dancing from 10pm – 12.30am.

Some great nights of dancing to look forward to.

 

Food Safety Training

A Food Safety training course will be held in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Tuesday 21st June, 9.00am to 5.00pm.

The course is designed to introduce participants to food safety and hygiene issues and is based on the HACCP criteria set down by the Food Safety Authority of  Ireland. The course is free to unemployed people or part-time workers who are interested in working in the food industry.

Swinford Indoor Country Market

Swinford Indoor Country Market is on Saturday the 4th of June from 9.30-2pm at Swinford Cultural Centre (beside the new library).

This month we are celebrating our 2nd birthday and we have busy day planned packed with entertainment for all the family.

Our wide range of lovely stalls will be there with a variety of local produce, including: veg, cakes, breads, plants, crafts, jewellery and much more.
There will be a craft workshop running for the children and we are delighted to welcome the team from the Irish Donkey Welfare Organisation who will be fundraising for their charity.

The Railway cafe will also be there giving you the chance to sit down and relax whilst enjoying the live music and having a lovely cup of tea with some homemade cake.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing you all there.

50/50 Draw

This weeks draw was held in The Whitehouse and Shane Ruane won €712. Thanks to all our supporters.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. Next draw is in the Melletts on the 7th June. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.

Siamsa Seipeil 2016

Siamsa Seipeil 2016 are very happy to announce that Our Lady Help of Christians Church will host from Aclare,County Sligo Tommy Fleming on Friday 29th July.
Tickets priced at €30 can be bought from www.tommyfleming.net and www.swinfordgaa.ie and in the real world in the Gateway Hotel, Melletts Newsagents and O’Connells pharmacy.

Mayo GAA Draw 2016

Swinford GAA Club are launching their club draw for 2016.  The annual subscription remains at €150.  The club draw is again structured this year to ensure each subscriber is getting value for their money and you will be entitled to the following for your €150 investment in the club;

1.     Club Membership – €20

2.       Entry to Senior Team home League games – €30

3.       County Board ticket – €100, which has a prize fund of over €50,000 and

4.       An entitlement to purchase an All-Ireland Senior Football final ticket should Mayo reach the final in 2016.

The officers of the club have decided to restrict the numbers in the draw this year to 120 people in order to limit the ticket demands placed on it should Mayo reach the All Ireland final in 2016.

Please contact any club officer as soon as  possible if you are interested in purchasing a ticket as we expect to sell the allocation within a couple of weeks.
