Computer & Business Courses

Computer & Business Course (s) for unemployed adults will take place in the Further Education Centre, Dublin Road, Swinford. Swinford VTOS is hosting an Open Day on Thursday 19th May from 11am – 2pm for unemployed adults who may be interested in doing a Computer and Business Course commencing in September 2016 at the Further Education Centre, Swinford.

The course which leads to QQ1 awards at levels, 4, 5, & 6 provides unemployed adults with the opportunity of returning to education, updating their skills and improving their employment prospects.

The course is free and adults who are over 21 and in receipt of social welfare for at least 6 months are eligible. Participants aged 25 and under may be entitled to an additional €60 per week. Childcare support is also available.

Computer/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone training for the over 55’s

Computer/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone training for the over 55’s. If you, or someone you know needs help or could benefit from 1:1 tuition, then this is for you. The aim of the “Getting Started” programme is to introduce older people to the basics of internet and email.

 

Age Action Ireland runs 4-week courses (2 hours per week) in the Swinford Library. You will receive individual tuition so you can go at your own pace. Classes are geared for either absolute beginners or those who have some knowledge and want to do a refresher/improver class. Classes are free of charge!

 

The last class before the summer break is as follows:

End Date:            Wednesday, June 29th

Síamsa Sráide Table Quiz will be held on Friday May 20th at 9pm in Campbell’s Lounge. Tables of four with good prizes.

 

Food Safety Training

A Food Safety training course will be held in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Tuesday 14th June, 9.00am to 5.00pm.

The course is designed to introduce participants to food safety and hygiene issues and is based on the HACCP criteria set down by the Food Safety Authority of  Ireland. The course is free to unemployed people or part-time workers who are interested in working in the food industry.

Mayo Cancer Support Association sincerely thanks all who took part in the Western People West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon and raised much needed funds for Rock Rose House.

Swinford & District Gardening Club

Katherine Connon will give a talk on “Creating a Haven in your Garden” at 8pm on Tuesday the 24th May in the Gateway Hotel. This talk will also demonstrate the benefits of gardening and its role in improving health and relieving stress. Suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners.

Summer Outing

A Summer Outing jointly organised by Swinford Social Services and Gardening Club will take place on June 27th, 28th & 29th. From a central location in Navan Town Centre you can become acquainted with the rich heritage of the Boyle Valley, travel to Drogheda, Malahide Castle and the National Botanic Gardens.

The three day programme promises to be diverse, interesting and hopefully enjoyable.

Swinford AC 2016 Spring Series

Swinford Athletic Clubs annual Spring Series sponsored by O’Connells Pharmacy final run will be held tonight May 18th in Foxford (5km).

Run starts at 7pm with registration from 6.45pm.

Entry fee: €2.00 for members, €5.00 for non members.

After run refreshments.  Everybody welcome to walk, run or jog.

U12’s to be accompanied by an adult.

FREE Tourism Expo

Tourism is a big opportunity for North Mayo/West Sligo. MayoNorth.ie and Ballina Tourist Office are holding a FREE tourism Expo on 24th May in the Ballina Manor Hotel from 10am to 1pm, designed to get everyone to “think tourism”.

The Midwest Radio Satellite Cruiser will be in attendance and there will be lots of great prizes. All welcome to drop in. Anyone offering a service to tourists can book a stand by emailing info@ballina.ie or calling Mags/Helen in Ballina Tourist Office on 096 72800. (Places limited)

Club Meeting

All members are asked to attend club meeting on Friday 20th May at 7pm in the Gateway Hotel. A very important matter requires to be discussed for the future development of the club.

50/50 Draw

This weeks draw was held in Franks Place, Killasser and Margaret Mary Gallagher of Oldcastle, Meelick won €627. Thanks to all our supporters.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. Next draw is in Julians, Midfield on the 24th May. Draw envelopes are now also available at 3 for €5.

Mayo GAA Draw 2016

Swinford GAA Club are launching their club draw for 2016.  The annual subscription remains at €150.  The club draw is again structured this year to ensure each subscriber is getting value for their money and you will be entitled to the following for your €150 investment in the club;

1.     Club Membership – €20

2.       Entry to Senior Team home League games – €30

3.       County Board ticket – €100, which has a prize fund of over €50,000 and

4.       An entitlement to purchase an All-Ireland Senior Football final ticket should Mayo reach the final in 2016.

The officers of the club have decided to restrict the numbers in the draw this year to 120 people in order to limit the ticket demands placed on it should Mayo reach the All Ireland final in 2016.

Please contact any club officer as soon as  possible if you are interested in purchasing a ticket as we expect to sell the allocation within a couple of weeks.
