Swinford & District Credit Union AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Swinford & District Credit Union will take place tonight (Wednesday 17th December) at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel

All members are invited to attend and a reminder that the members draw for a Toyota Yaris and various cash prizes will also be held on the night.

Killasser Community Centre Fundraising Social

The Committee of the Killasser Community Centre are holding a fundraising social in Frank’s Place on Saturday 27th December starting at 9:30pm.

They would greatly appreciate your support of this event in order to assist in securing the future viability of this community facility.

The new committee would like to thank all those who attended the recent AGM and who have subsequently offered their support.

Charity 5k Fun Run

Pat and Siobhan O’Neill in conjunction with Swinford Athletics Club are hosting a 5k Fun Run on Sunday 28th December in aid of Crumlin Hospital.

The meeting point is outside Julian’s of Midfield at 1pm. Your support for this event would be greatly appreciated.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1102 and was won by Mary Ryan of Treenfaughnane, Bohola.

The next draw will take place in Eurospar, Swinford on Tuesday 23rd December at 8:30pm.

On top of the usual 50% for the winner, next week there will be various spot prizes for other entries on the night. Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses and you can also play online.

Since the club started the draw back in August over €18,000 has been given out to weekly winners and a similar sum raised by the club to help in the running of the club, the maintenance of Robert McCallion Memorial Park and the acquisition of equipment. The club would like to thank all our ticket sellers, especially the players and everyone in the community who have purchased envelopes.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Tickets for the GAA National Club Draw are now available from Swinford GAA Club. There are a number of great prizes up for grabs including overseas trips to watch the 2015 All Stars. A full list of all the prizes on offer can be found here.

Tickets are €10 and are available from the players and Swinford GAA club officers. The club retains all proceeds from the ticket sales, which will be used during the year for club development.

The club would like to remind everyone that club membership for 2015 is also now open. Swinford GAA would like to wish all our members, players and supporters a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Console Christmas Celebration Of Light

Console Christmas Celebration of Light was held in Our Lady Help of Christian’s Church, Swinford on Sunday 7th December. The organisers would like to thank all those who attended this special ceremony and a very BIG thank you to the wonderful musicians and singers, Francie MacNicholas and James Kilbane, who sang at the event, as well as Antoniette Byrne who accompanied the artists so beautifully. A special “thank you” to Breege O’Connell, who was MC at the event and to Cllr. Michael Smyth for his participation in the event.

This was the third year of the event in Swinford and the MC and Artists have graciously given of their time each year to make it the event it has become.

Console would also like to give a special mention to Tom, Lillian & Lorraine Scanlon, who presented the proceeds of The Memorial Walk, which was held on the 6th September 2014 in Coolooney, Co. Sligo in memory of Tony Scanlon, to Console at the Christmas Celebration of Light ceremony. The Scanlon family have held this Memorial Walk each year since the death of their son by suicide and each year they divide the proceeds between Console & STOP Suicide.

Blessing of the Christmas Crib

The blessing of the Christmas Crib in Swinford which was deferred due to bad weather, will take place on Sunday 21st December immediately after the 12 o’clock mass. The blessing will include prayers given by children from the local national schools and carol singing by the Naionra pupils. Everybody welcomed.

Christmas Lights and Nativity Crib

Visit the Christmas light display and Nativity Crib at Vincent O’Briens House, Laughtadurcan, Meelick. Follow directions from Meelick Church. All donations equally divided between Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Contact 087 6830314 for further information.
