Meelick Irish Countrywomen’s Association

Small Electrical Appliance Collection

Swinford National School are holding a small electrical appliance collection. You can drop off any unwanted electrical appliances into the school hall on the senior side of Swinford National School on the following dates, Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th January. Drop off times are from 9:10am to 4:00pm on both days.

Please note, this will be a Small Electrical Appliance Collection only.

Mayo Roscommon Hospice Ecumenical Service

The Ecumenical Service for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice’s Let Love Shine A Light appeal will take place on Sunday 18th January in St. John’s Rest and Care Centre, Knock commencing at 3:45pm.

All those for whom lights were sponsored on the Tree of Light will be prayed for at the service. All are welcomed to attend.

Free Recycling Of Christmas Trees

Mayo County Council have made arrangements for the recycling of Christmas Trees after the Christmas Season. There are numerous Christmas Tree recycling depots around County Mayo where you can drop off your Christmas Tree for free.

Any person in the Swinford and surrounding areas who wishes to avail of this service is invited to deposit their used Christmas Tree into the Mayo County Council Pound, Kilkelly Road, Swinford before Saturday 17th January.

Please ensure that all decorations are removed from the trees prior to recycling.

Swinford GAA Club will be holding an Executive Meeting on Sunday 18th January at 6pm in the Gateway Hotel.

Swinford GAA Club would like to congratulate Mark Forkan on making the Mayo U21 team currently taking part in the Hastings Cup and Stephen Henry on making the Sligo IT team in the FBD League.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s draw was worth €1072 and was won by Rachel Hunt of Carracastle.

The next draw will take place in the Gateway Hotel, Swinford on Tuesday 20th January.

Female Athlete Of The Year

Congratulations to Michaela Walsh, who won the ‘ARCU Irish Female Athlete Of The Year’ award reflecting her outstanding 2014 season.

In 2014 Michaela represented Ireland at the World Junior Olympics in Beijing and secured sixth place. Michaela was also awarded the Swinford Athletic Club’s ‘Athlete Of The Year’ for the fifth year in a row at their recent annual awards night.
