Siamsa Seipeil 2016
Siamsa Seipeil 2016 are very happy to announce that Our Lady Help of Christians Church will host from Aclare,County Sligo Tommy Fleming.
Tommy has toured both home and worldwide for the past 20 years to packed audiences and started his career off in Swinford where he spent summers busking at Siamsa Sraide and playing in many of the pubs as he set out on the road to success.
In 2004 he played the Basilica in Knock to over 5000 people, a show that has been seen by many millions worldwide on television and through DVD sales.
Following in the footsteps of Frankie Gavin, Sharon Shannon, Paul Brady and Phil Coulter Tommy will play Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Friday 29th July for what should be a fantastic night of entertainment. Tommy and his band will play songs from his many albums spanning his career in a night that is not to be missed.

Weight Management Programme
The Crói “iBalance” Programme which is delivered by a Crói Dietician over 6 weeks (1 hour per week) includes expert guidance on all aspects of healthy eating, including the topics: exploring your relationship with food, making healthy choices when shopping, understanding food labels and controlling portion sizes.
During the 6 week “iBalance” programme each person is encouraged to keep a food diary and a weekly “weigh-in” is also provided for those who wish to participate.
Next course takes place in Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street in Castlebar on Thursday April 21st from 1-2pm.
Booking is essential. A “not for profit” fee applies.

Kinaffe NS
Kinaffe NS will hold an open day on Tuesday 4th of May from 3.30 to 5.30 pm. Anyone who would like to make arrangements to call to the school at an alternative time please contact Karen Ann on 094 9251031.
Cardiac Support Group
Mayo Cardiac Support Group will hold its next meeting on Thursday April 14th from 7-9pm in Hotel Ballina.
This meeting is open to anyone who has heart disease, and their family members/carers. Guest speaker is Denise Dunne, Crói Cardiac Physiotherapist and the topic is “Exercising after your cardiac event and physiotherapy advice”.
Admission is free of charge. No booking required.

Horticulture training
Horticulture training (QQI Level 3) will be held in Swinford on Tuesday 3rd May and will run each Tuesday for five weeks. 10.00am to 4.00pm. The course is free to unemployed and part-time employed people. The purpose of the course is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skills and competence to plant, grow and maintain a range of vegetables.

St Patrick’s College Reunion 1961
A reunion of the first year class of 1961 and all those who joined the class to Leaving Certificate 1966 in St Patrick’s College Swinford will take place on June 25th at 4 o’clock.
The evening will start with a photo shoot at the College with refreshments afterwards.

Mayo Roscommon Hospice is appealing for walkers/joggers to participate in the Western People West of Ireland Mini Marathon in Castlebar on Sunday May 1st or the VHI Womens Mini Marathon Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday , June 6th on their behalf.
The money raised is necessary to maintain local palliative care services.

1916 Historical Talk
As part of “Swinford Celebrates 1916” NUIG Special Collections Librarian and Callow native Marie Bohan will deliver a talk entitled “1916: The View From The West – Evidence from the Military Archives” on Monday April 18th in the Gateway Hotel at 8pm. This will be a great start to Swinford’s 1916 Commemoration.
Memory & Music
Commemorative Parade
Plans and preparations continue for a Commemorative Parade on Sunday April 24th as part of “Swinford Celebrates 1916” weekend. The parade will be held after 12 o’clock mass, led by Midfield Pipe Band through the town, concluding with a tree planting ceremony by Swinford and District Gardening Club. After the Parade, Swinford Court House will be open to the public. Swinford Handball Club will stage a handball exhibition in the alley at Sancta Maria at 2.45pm. A reading of The Proclamation will also be included in the itinerary of the day. Everyone welcome.
12 o’clock Mass will be celebrated in Irish, accompanied by Swinford Adult Choir.
All community groups and individuals are asked to take part in the parade. The organisers would be delighted if participants dressed in period clothing. Residents and businesses are encouraged to fly the Irish flag over the weekend of the celebrations.
Meeting
A meeting to finalise plans for “Swinford Celebrates 1916” will be held on Monday April 19th in the Gateway Hotel after Marie Bohan’s Historical Talk. All are welcome to attend. This weeks draw was held in Moores and Madeline Brennan of Midfield, Swinford won €621. Thanks to all our supporters.

Swinford GAA will host a table quiz in the Gateway Hotel on Friday 21st April at 9pm. Tables of 4 will be €40. Prizes and refreshments on the night.
