Meelick Irish Countrywomen’s Association

Swinford Men’s Shed
A start up meeting for a Men’s Shed in Swinford is being organised. This meeting will take place in the Gateway Hotel on Thursday 13th November at 7pm. A representative from Irish Men’s Shed Association will be in attendance to answer any questions that you may have.

Christmas Bazaar
Christmas Bazaar on Sunday 7th December at 3pm in Meelick Community Centre. Fundraiser for St Joseph’s National School Parents Association.
Swinford’s Biggest Loser Fundraising Quiz
There will be a novelty fundraising quiz in The White House on Friday 14th November at 9pm in support of the Swinford’s Biggest Loser competition between the White House and the Gateway Hotel.
All funds raised will be shared between Console and Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. This will be a quiz with a difference so please come along and support these great causes and the two teams in their battle of the bulge. Entry is €5 per person.

Social Services Church Gate Collection
The recent Swinford Social Services Church Gate Collection amounted to €636.00. Many thanks to all who contributed to this worthy cause. The monies collected are used to help fund the meals on wheels service and also the Christmas Party which will be held in Julian’s on Sunday 14th December commencing with Mass at 3 pm, followed by dinner and entertainment.

Christmas Bazaar
A Monster Christmas Bazaar in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice will be held in the Cultural Centre, Swinford on Sunday 30th November from 12noon to 6pm.
There will be lots of trade stands with Christmas gift ideas, decorations, food, baking, raffles and children’s entertainment. Admission is free.
Swinford GAA Fixtures
There are no club matches this weekend. All teams have finished their season except for one Division 1C game to be played against Ballyhaunis. This is currently fixed for the weekend of the 29th/30th November.
Swinford GAA Meetings
There is a Swinford GAA monthly meeting on Sunday 16th November in the Gateway Hotel at 7:00pm. All members are asked to attend as there are important matters to discuss.
Swinford GAA Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 30th November at 7:30pm in the Gateway Hotel. Any members who wish to nominate members to the club executive or submit a motion must forward them to the club secretary, Katie Kelly by Wednesday 26th November. All nominations must be properly proposed and seconded and must also be signed by the person being nominated indicating their consent.

Swinford Christmas Festival
This year will see the first Swinford Christmas Festival running from Friday 28th November to Sunday 7th December. Over the course of the festival, there will be many events and activities occurring around Swinford for all the family. There will also be a fantastic shopping promotion running throughout in all participating businesses, where lucky customers will get a daily chance to win local shopping vouchers worth hundreds of euro and an overall winner will win €1000 in cash.

Official Launch of Swinford Christmas Festival
The official launch of the upcoming Swinford Christmas Festival will take place on Friday 21st November at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel. Everybody is invited to attend on the night, where the programme of events for the festival taking place from Friday 28th November to Sunday 7th December will be launched.
All support is very much appreciated.
Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw
This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1220 and was won by Gertie Molloy of Cloonfinane.
The next draw will take place in Julian’s, Midfield on Tuesday 18th November.
Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses and you can now play online.

Charity Floral Demonstration
Swinford Gardening Club will be holding a Christmas floral demonstration by Martina Flynn in aid of the Roisin Tansey Trust Fund on Tuesday 2nd December at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel.

Hospice Shop wins ‘Battle of the Shops’
The Hospice Shop in Swinford is delighted to have won the recent ‘Battle of the Shops’ competition in the Royal Theatre in Castlebar and would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and supported the event. Also a BIG thank you to all the lovely models who did Swinford proud on the catwalk, all the shop volunteers/ticket sellers and everyone who helped out on the night.

Route Selection Public Consultation
The emerging preferred route corridor for the following routes will be displayed in the Cultural Centre, Swinford on Wednesday 19th November from 2pm to 8pm.
• N5 between Castlebar and Bohola,
• N58 between Foxford and the N5 and,
• N26 between Mount Falcon and Swinford
Staff from Mayo County Council (Mayo National Roads Design Office) and Roughan & O’Donovan AECOM Consulting Engineers will be available to answer questions at the venue. Mayo County Council invite your comments in relation to the emerging preferred route corridors which will be finalised following a review of the information gathered at this Public Consultation, together with additional studies on the emerging preferred routes, if required.
The preferred routes will also be displayed at venues in Straide, Foxford and Ballina. Locations and times for the other venues can be found here along with further information on this public consultation.
