Swinford St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2015

Next week sees Swinford celebrate its 64th St. Patrick’s Day Parade since 1952. The theme for 2015 is ‘Our History Our Heritage’. This is always a great family day out and we invite all of you to come and enjoy the day in town.

The parade will commence at 3pm. All participants are asked to have their entry forms returned to the St Patrick’s Day box at the reception in the Gateway Hotel by Friday 13th at the latest. If you would like to discuss participating in the parade, please contact Cathal Kelly on 087 6412785

On the day itself, all participants are asked to be in the Tesco car park by 2:30pm and please co-operate with all stewards to ensure the safe and smooth running of the parade for all.

All local businesses, clubs, societies and organisations are asked to get involved in any way they can to make sure this special national day is a success. Whether it is by entering into the parade or decorating your premises, please do whatever you can.

The parade relies on all local finances to operate and all contributions are gratefully received. All businesses are asked to drop their contribution into the box at the Gateway Hotel reception.

Culmore National School Open Day

Culmore National School will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday 21st March between 11am and 1pm.

Swinford Comhaltas Quiz Night

The Mayo County Fleadh Cheoil will be hosted in Swinford for the 3rd year in a row this May. The local Comhaltas branch – Michael Davitt CCE are holding a Table Quiz in the Gateway Hotel on Friday 13th March at 9:30pm to help with the costs. This is always a fun night with good prizes and refreshments provided.

Please come along and enjoy a great start to a long St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Áras Attracta Sessions

Michael Davitt Branch CCE has recently been holding monthly sessions in Áras Attracta. The next monthly session will take place on Sunday 15th March at 6pm. All are welcome.

Seisiún na nÓg

The next Seisiún na nÓg in Swinford is on Sunday 22nd March. Led as usual by Rob it will be hosted by Rita and Shane in Campbell’s White House.

All young musicians are welcome to come along and enjoy playing, singing, dancing or listening for an hour or two.

Social Services Summer Outing

Social Services Summer Outing to County Clare will take place on June 29th, 30th & July 1st 2015. The group will be staying in The Old Ground Hotel, Ennis and will be visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Craggaunowen, Lisdoonvarna Smokehouse, Burren Centre & Kilfenora. There will also be an evening meal in the Barn Kitchen at Bunratty Folkpark. Total cost of the trip is €240.

Anyone wishing to travel is asked to pay a deposit of €50 using one of the following methods: by posting a cheque to treasurer Mary Gallagher, Moyhaven, Cloongullane, Swinford; by leaving your name and deposit with a committee member in Moore’s Shop after 12 o’clock mass on Sunday 15th or 22nd March; or by contacting Mary Gallagher on 087 8147463 or Susie Moore on 087 7677687

Defibrillator Training

Defibrillator Training has been organised for Saturday 28th March in the Gateway Hotel from 11am to 6pm.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1109 and was won by Jim McNicholas of Lagcurragh.

The next draw will take place in The White House at 9pm on St. Patrick’s Night.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses plus you can also play online. Draw envelopes are now available at 3 for €5.

Humbert Challenge Triathlon

Swinford Tri Sports are again hosting the Humbert Challenge Triathlon and this year’s event will take place on Sunday 28th June.

The Humbert Challenge Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon which involves a 1500m swim in the beautiful Callow Lake, a 44k cycle and a 10k run. Last years event not only attracted a great level of local participation but also competitors from all over the country and beyond.

Women’s Mini Marathon

If anyone is doing the Women’s Mini Marathon this year could they consider helping The Carers Association in Mayo.
