Meelick Irish Countrywomen’s Association

The next meeting of the Meelick Guild of the ICA is being held tonight (Wednesday 11th February) at 8:30pm in the Meelick Community Centre. New & past members welcome. Phone Judith on 086 0749103 for more details.

Swinford Men’s Shed Meeting

Swinford Men’s Shed will be holding a meeting on Thursday 12th February at 7pm in the Gateway Hotel. This meeting is being held in order to make decisions on what projects to develop and how to progress matters in the short and long term. New members are always welcomed and if anyone has tools or equipment that they wish to donate to the Men’s Shed, please come along to the meeting.

It is hoped that in the next four weeks to have the shed up and running in the old woodwork room of St. Patrick’s College, Swinford and work can begin on a number of new projects.

Swinford GAA Meeting

Swinford GAA Club will be holding a meeting on Sunday 15th February at 6.30pm in the Gateway Hotel. All Members are asked to attend.

Residents Committees Meeting

A meeting to assist individuals who want to set up a residents committee in their housing estate will be held in the Gateway Hotel on Monday 16th February at 8pm.

It is important that housing estates have a committee as funding from Mayo County Council will only be available to those that have set up a committee and have a bank account.

Greenway Public Meeting

A public information meeting on the subject of a Greenway for South Sligo will take place on Tuesday 17th February in the Yeats County Hotel in Curry at 8pm.

The proposed Greenway would follow the route of the disused railway running from Collooney to Charlestown and potentially southwards through Mayo to connect with the Great Western Greenway near Swinford and to Athenry in Galway, to connect with the Dublin Galway greenway.

The meeting will be addressed by journalist and trailway enthusiast, John Mulligan and by local Greenway campaigner, Brendan Quinn. Everyone with an interest in the proposal is encouraged to attend.

Achonry Regional Pioneer Dinner Dance

This year’s Achonry Regional Pioneer Dinner Dance will be held on Friday 27th February in the Gateway Hotel starting at 8pm.

Tickets are €25 and are available from Thomas Marren on 087 2344338 or from Yvonne Moore in Moore’s Supermarket, Swinford.

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1011 and was won by Mary Higgins c/o Swinford Motors Ltd.

The next draw will take place in Quinn’s Bar, Swinford on Tuesday 17th February.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses plus you can also play online.

Swinford GAA Club would like to thank all the sellers of tickets, the players for going out every weekend selling tickets and everyone in the community who purchased envelopes. Your support is greatly appreciated.

New York Marathon Participants Required

Mayo Roscommon Hospice is seeking individuals to take part in the New York City Marathon in November. This is an all in package deal and is well worth doing as a once in a lifetime event.

Arthritis Walking Group

The Mayo Branch of Arthritis Ireland have started a new ‘Let’s Get Walking Together’ group for people living with arthritis and fibromyalgia in the Swinford and surrounding areas.

The walking group meets at 10am every Saturday morning at the Amenity Centre, Swinford for a gentle walk / stroll.
