Barnacogue National School Christmas Disco

Following on from their very successful Halloween Disco, Barnacogue National School are hosting a Children’s Christmas Disco in the school hall on Friday 12th December from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

Santa will be a special guest on the night and everyone is welcome.

Mother & Toddler Group

Barneys Busy Bees Mother and Toddler group takes place every Monday and Thursdays from 9:30am to 12noon in Barnacogue National School.

Give your infant or toddler an opportunity to socialise and play in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

On Thursday 11th December they will be hosting a special Christmas event. Carmel Balfe will work with the children to create a Christmas Carol Puppet Show. This is a fun, festive and exciting workshop, which will ignite the children’s imagination and creativity. This event is free of charge and open to the public. Everyone welcome!

Swinford Men’s Shed Construct Christmas Crib

Swinford Men’s Shed was recently formed by local men from Swinford, Charlestown and surrounding areas. Swinford Men’s Shed have recently completed their first project, the Christmas Crib opposite the Gateway Hotel on Main Street, Swinford. The materials were supplied by Swinford Tidy Towns and painting by Trease Hennigan. The figurines were made by John Darwell.

Swinford Men’s Shed is a coming together of men of different ages and social backgrounds. To share life experiences, skills and beliefs in a positive and non-judgemental way for the betterment of themselves and society in general.

The next meeting of Swinford Men’s Shed will be held in the Gateway Hotel on Thursday 11th December at 7pm. All are welcome to attend and they would greatly appreciate anyone who would like to donate power tools, hand tools or wood for construction projects. Contact 087 9973050 for further information.

Swinford Community Christmas Indoor Market

A special Christmas market will take place on Sunday 14th December from 10am to 3pm in the Cultural Centre. It’s a great place to buy those extra special Christmas gifts locally. Fresh veg, baking, breads, cheese, all kinds of crafts, jewellery and many many more locally produced items will be on offer. The railway café will also be open for tea, coffee, cakes and scones.

Please come along and support your local community market.

Christmas Floral Workshop

A Christmas Floral Workshop will take place on Tuesday 16th December at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel. Learn to create your own door wreath, table piece or create a gift for someone special this Christmas.

Cost is €20 for non-members and €10 for members. All materials and flowers supplied. Places are limited and can be booked by calling 087 6520311

Swinford GAA 50/50 Draw

This week’s 50/50 draw was worth €1233 and was won by Bernie Campbell of Midfield.

The next draw will take place in Bolands, Swinford on Tuesday 16th December.

Draw envelopes are widely available in Swinford’s shops and businesses and you can also play online.

Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Michael Davitt Branch Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann will be held in the Gateway Hotel on Wednesday 10th December at 8:30pm.

All existing members are invited to attend. Anyone interested in joining as a new member are welcome to come along as well.
Membership fees for 2015 are now due -: €20 Family, €12 Adult and €6 Child.

Swinford & District Credit Union AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Swinford & District Credit Union will take place on Wednesday 17th December at 8pm in the Gateway Hotel.

All members are invited to attend. The members draw for a Toyota Yaris and various cash prizes will also be held on the night. The closing date for entry to this draw is Saturday 13th December.

Scoil Muire agus Padraig, Swinford are holding an open night on Thursday 11th December between 6pm and 8pm.

All 6th class pupils, parents and guardians are invited to attend an Open Night in Scoil Muire agus Padraig on Thursday 11th December between 6pm and 8pm. The open night will feature an address from the Principal at 7:15pm.

Scoil Muire agus Padraig is the top feeder school in Mayo for students attending third level colleges in 2014.

Christmas Lights And Crib

Paddy Campbell will once again be switching on his Christmas lights and crib on Friday 12th December at 7pm & the lights will remain on until 6th January 2015.

All donations received will go to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Tesco Tea Party

The recent Tesco Tea Party in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital, was a lovely event and raised much needed funds for a great cause. Tesco would like to sincerely thank everyone who came along and supported the party. A BIG thank you to all who baked or who donated the vast array of cakes/buns/scones for the event. A very special “thank you” to Cathal Kelly and the staff of the Gateway Hotel who supplied the teas and coffees free and for all their help in arranging the morning. It was all very much appreciated.
