Swinford Will Represent Mayo

As you may have heard, Mayo County Council have selected Swinford town and community to represent Mayo in the national Pride of Place competition. Pride of Place is about recognising initiatives  and efforts made by local communities to create civic pride in their area. The competition will focus on how people come together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about our town and community.

Tonight, a meeting was held in Swinford’s new Cultural Centre to decide on a theme for the event with good representation of the clubs and organisations in the area.  On Tuesday the 5th of August, a group of judges will visit Swinford and meet with representatives from various clubs who wish to participate and it is hoped that all clubs will get involved and promote their efforts and ambitions. As well as meeting the judges on the day, each club has been asked to put together a one-two page document with pictures outlining how their club have/aim to improve the community; the full judging criteria and committee contact details can be viewed here.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Swinford to promote everything that is great about our town at a national level. The competition is not about any one club, organisation or person so make sure that your club or organisation gets involved and plays its part in securing this award for everybody in Swinford town and community. #wemakeitwhatitis
