Swinford Killasser Ladies GFC have qualified for the County Intermediate Championship Final following a thrilling and hard fought semi-final win over Westport at Swinford Amenity Park on Friday evening. Having already secured Division 1 status for next year in the Senior League, reaching the Championship final is a huge bonus for this young senior team. The lead swayed back and forth by a single point throughout this thrilling game and left our girls leading by 0-06 to 0-05 at half time. The tie remained deadlocked until ten minutes from time when the victors were decided thanks to Melissa Devaneys well taken goal. Swinford Killasser pushed on from this to win on a final score of 1-11 to 0-09. Well done girls and good luck in the County Final.

Swinford Killasser Ladies make winning start to Minor League

Swinford Killasser kicked off our Minor League campaign on Wednesday with a superb performance to brush aside the challenge of local rivals Charlestown. Clashes between these two local clubs always have an extra edge to them and although the visitors put up a good show early on they were eventually dispatched on a scoreline of 3-09 to 0-06.

Orna and Rebecca

Two players from this Swinford Killasser Minor team travelled to Dublin with the Mayo U17 Academy team on Thursday to participate in the All-Ireland U17 Academy Blitz. Well done to Orna O’Brien and Rebecca McHugh who helped Mayo overcome Dublin, Limerick and Cork to reach the All-Ireland final where they played Armagh.

Two more Swinford Killasser players will pull on the Mayo jersey next weekend as Vanessa McHugh and Roisin Durkin line out against Laois in the All-Ireland Under 16 Semi Final. This game will take place at 2pm on Sunday in Ardagh, County Longford.

Swinford Killasser to host U10 blitz

Pride of Place Swinford

Pride of Place is a competition run throughout the 32 counties of Ireland for Communities to showcase their voluntary activities of Clubs and other organisations.  Judges visited Swinford on Tuesday and were very impressed by all the activities and facilities within our Community. Swinford Killasser Ladies GFC thank the players, parents and mentors of our Under 13 team for putting on a match at the Amenity Park to showcase the young footballers from our Club.

Pitch Sharing

Orna O’Brien in full flow!

Swinford Amenity Park is used throughout the year by a large number of groups for different activities; including Swinford Killasser Ladies GFC, our local schools and under age teams from Swinford Gaa Club for gaelic football. Due to the closure of their own pitch for necessary maintenance works, all teams from Swinford Gaa Club will share the usage of Swinford Amenity Park for three weeks, commencing this Thursday. The majority of these activities will involve training on the new pitch at the Kiltimagh Road end of the Amenity Park. To ensure all games fixed for Swinford during this period are played in Swinford all clubs will work together to make the main pitch at Swinford Amenity Park available for games. Changes to match times may vary slightly, but training times should remain the same as the new training pitch is now available, marked and ready for use.
