On July 25th and 26th, over sixty boys and girls traveled from the four provinces for the first national junior squad training to be held in the Gateway hotel Swinford. The national junior coach from Cork (John Connolly), Paul Brennan ( national ladies coach from Dublin) and Marie Dolphin (National kata coach from Galway) were all in attendance.

The week-end was a great success, many of the attendees traveling to Mayo for the first time. The organiser,Kevin Loftus was delighted with the enthusiasm shown by all those who took part. It is hoped to make this an annual event. The event is part of the national governing body’s(O.N.A.K.A.I.) plan to organise courses throughout the 32 counties.
