Renewal of faith mission

Missions’ have always been important events in the life of a parish, providing an opportunity for all in the parish community to come together to pray and renew commitment to our faith. For three evenings, October 28th, 29th and 30th, Swinford Parish Church will host a special Mission. This Mission is part of Praying for our Diocese 2014, the year of prayer launched by Bishop Kelly in January. Each evening there will be Mass at 7.30 p.m. with a guest preacher and a period of guided prayer after Holy Communion.

The focus of the Mission is on renewal. The first evening will reflect on personal renewal, the baptismal calling of every person to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The preacher will be Mgr Tommy Johnson, parish priest of Charlestown.

The second evening the focus will be on parish renewal – in the words of our parish Mission Statement, our call ‘to be living witnesses to Jesus Christ through whom friendship, compassion and service are given to all within a welcoming and active Church community’. The preacher will be Fr Vincent Sherlock, parish priest of Kilmovee. The third evening will focus on diocesan renewal. The diocese is a community of communities and the preacher for our third evening will be Bishop Brendan Kelly. Each evening material to bring home for further reflection will be provided.

All are invited to attend the three evenings of our Mission in Swinford Church. It promises to be an enriching experience for us all. We look forward to welcoming you there.
