Youth Memorial Park Swinford

In order to progress the development of a Youth Memorial Park in Swinford, the committee have met with Mayo County Council and discussed the matter at length. Attached find press release which explains what is proposed.

It would be hopeful that as many people as possible will view each of the options and give their comments. Meanwhile, fundraising for the project will continue with the target date for the opening set for next summer.

Press Release

13 December 2015 Press Release – Youth Memorial Park Some three years ago, a committee was formed in Swinford with the prime purpose of erecting a suitable monument to honour and remember all the youth of Swinford who had passed away tragically or otherwise over the years.

With the assistance of Mayo County Council, five possible locations were sourced and identified. Apart from one location which is registered in the name of CIE, all of the remainder are in the ownership of Mayo County Council. As each of the other four locations have individual appeal and possible potential, it has been suggested by the Committee that all should be put on public display.

Whilst all five locations have their own merits, the Memorial Park Committee are of the view that the CIE site is the best location overall for the Park. With this in mind all of the five locations will be on view in the foyer of the Library and Cultural Centre for a week commencing Monday 4th January.

A box will be available for all signed comments. Everybody with an interest is invited to view the exhibits. The committee wish to thank Mayo County Council and Mark Rhodes Sculptor for their input and look forward to the construction of the Memorial Park. A target date for the opening is set for summer 2016.
